We were up in Canada last June bear hunting. We drove our motorhome up there. We heard if you go 20 over the speed limit they take your vehicle for a week. True? We were out of Vanderhoff.

Wow! They just leave you standing on the side of the Hwy when they take your vehicle? I was never so glad to get back to the good old U.S. of A. When I came out of Canada. I felt like I had just left Mexico.

Well the guy I mentioned was driving a new A8, and he's a medical doctor so.... no, the law is targeting people speeding in excess.

So your wife mistakenly goes 20 or 24 over the speed limit along ways out in the country. They stop her, take her car away and makes her "walk". As she walking, 3 dirt bags come along a kindnap her. This law just doesn't seem right. Canada just set her up to be kidnapped and rapped. No care or liability?

nobody does 85 in a 60 mistakenly... and if they do... they should not have a license.

There is always an option of paying for a second vehicle from the towing company to pick you up. But it does not involve the police or the ticket. And yeah, ticket, license suspension, impound. You control your own destiny by choosing to speed or not.

Saw one a few years ago. I was following an RV and a sportbike thru a school zone. The biker decided he'd had enough 20mph, pulled out, cracked the throttle and passed the RV. End of school zone is a radar trap. How fast does a sportbike go when you crack the throttle for 100 feet? I came back as the bike was being loaded onto a wrecker deck.

Saskatchewan plate, maybe 1000 miles from home. No license, no bike, no bus service either. Mommy....

Only 3 highways thru Nakusp, North, South or East and you end up waiting for a ferry 30 miles later....

My off road trailer build (post #4 of this thread) is in the final stages … I hope!!! … and I'm moving on to the next one. It's a 1986 Cadet fibreglass trailer that I am building for overlanding. I'm currently restoring and modifying the body and building an interior for it. It has NO interior now. I'll be building a more off road capable chassis for it with independent suspension and larger "Jeep" wheels.

lol, kidnapped (??) good lord man! The police would not leave you on a country road with no means of transport, they would however leave you in an area which had public transport or cabs, or at the very least sidewalks.
Its actually 50 kilometers over the posted speed limit before they impound, so no one does this by accident. I have read in the news a number of people having their cars impounded but hard to feel sorry for someone doing 195, or 210, or even 250 in a 100 zone, or doing 130 down a residential street which is a 50 zone.

and I dare say anyone south of the boarder should be criticizing policing in Canada, no secret you guys have some real issues with the po-po down there doing all kinds of bad things.

What I find more appalling than having your vehicle impounded for grossly exceeding the speed limit is having a cop pull you over and confiscating the 2000 dollars cash you have (could be any amount that was just a random number I picked) and making you prove it is not the proceeds of crime, and then keeping it for the police if you do not have the means of doing so (IE: you can't afford a lawyer).

I dare say you watch too much TV (leftist propaganda). The U.S. is a country of 325 million people and an infinitesimal amount of police misconduct and we don't have speech/thought police yet as Canada does.

I was just going by what billiebob said. (24 over ... vehicle taken and leaving you on the side of the Hwy to "walk"). I found it very hard to believe any law enforcement agency would do that. But that s what he said. Glad it's not true. Rant over.
