Why the hate for snorkels?

I asked a legitimate question for a good reason. I also give good advice and have lots of experience. It was only a joke about stirring the pot. I am also not one to preach 4.88 or 5.13 gears for 33 or 35 inch tires because my rigs are not trailer queens, I have to drive to where I play and there is only 1 gas station within 50 miles so I am conservative about my builds. I am eventually going to start my LJ build and I feel that there is a lot of knowledge on here. I just hope some can see the humor and sarcasm sometimes....

Same here, I don't trailer my Jeep. I drive it and tow my pop-up tent trailer with it.You are describing my daily driver, not a trailer queen.
A guy I work with has a nice looking jeep. His jeep has a snorkel and I think it looks good, but I tease him that he doesn't even drive it in the rain LOL.
On some jeeps they look good in my opinion.

Second , the forum rule book clearly states in section. 8, part B, line 12 -"any water exclusion or air admittance system externally located on the vehicle shall he deemed inadmissable as a modification , and may lead the potential owner into a false sense of the vehicles capabilities . " Members with these devices will be limited to 4 posts per month .
Seriously , They do make a jeep look more capable and "ready for anything " or even more militaristic , if that's a word . But they only make it look that way . They really don't change the Jeep's ability to resist water ingestion or water damage .
That's the general view man , but at the end of the day , we all do the same kind of things , like wear our wives clothes when she's out of town , so do what makes ya happy.

When I see a snorkel, it doesn't make me assume the Jeep is somehow more capable. I don't think a snorkel makes a Jeep look better either.

I've seen enough vehicles suck in water and stop running in the middle of a 'puddle' to not take the risk. Every time I've been out wheeling someone has sucked water in and had to at least replace the air filter, most had to be pulled out and the plugs pulled.
$80 is a lot cheaper than hydrolocking an engine after miscalculating how deep something is or water splashing the wrong way...
This was deep enough the TJ would have sucked water.
The XJ in that picture sucked water the outing before that too.

I've never seen a TJ with angry eyes stuck so I think angry eyes are more effective than a winch.
Here's where I become a wimp - I'm just not going to run my 03 Rubicon in water that deep ....I might buy a beater and do Lord knows what .
Technique may play a role. I've had water wash over the hood a few times. In the deeper water, I try to keep a slow steady pace and keep moving.
However, I did see a guy blast through a very shallow creek crossing (6" deep?) and lock up the engine. We eventually got him started, but the engine had a knock. I never found out what happened after that.
