Nice build Midnight LJR, attn. to detail is evident...I was told to take a look at your build specifically, and that is what led me to this forum...went through your entire saga last night!

Looking at your profile it appears like you have a well-built rig as well. Hope to see you on the trails one day.Nice build Midnight LJR, attn. to detail is evident...I was told to take a look at your build specifically, and that is what led me to this forum...went through your entire saga last night!
I have been mostly on JeepForum for the last decade or so, I have an '85 CJ7 as well...camped at Ellis Creek Bridge a few weeks back, way more snow then I thought but it was nice to have the trail to ourselves...Looking at your profile it appears like you have a well-built rig as well. I'd love to build an old willys truck one day.
Alex,
Easiest way is to look is at this thread: mvigo CJ7 resto thread I don't mean to throw out a competitor's forum to Chris and this TJ forum, Chris, you can delete this post if not suitable and, I don't want to hijack Midnight LJR's thread, so he can delete this too if he chooses...but, there are pics in there from the beginning, I have had it since '96...
Thread derailment complete. @Squatch would be proudAlex,

A very simple fact that is so prevalent as to be the norm and why that escapes so many who want to be bothered by it, fully escapes my comprehension.Theres no such thing as a thread that stays on topic around this place. Always happy to have the conversation going.![]()
Looks way cleaner. Was it a pita getting the brackets off?Since the exhaust shop didn’t route the exhaust correctly. I decided to remove the OEM upper brackets so that they would not hit the tailpipe. I also cleaned up the shops terrible bracket they made.

However even after doing this I am still not happy with the shops work so will likely order some mandrel bends and redo it in the near future. But at least the exhaust won’t get smashed on the trail in the meantime.
Do you still have an XJ?Since the exhaust shop didn’t route the exhaust correctly. I decided to remove the OEM upper brackets so that they would not hit the tailpipe. I also cleaned up the shops terrible bracket they made.

Which Dana 44 is in the rear? The tubes look so small.Since the exhaust shop didn’t route the exhaust correctly. I decided to remove the OEM upper brackets so that they would not hit the tailpipe. I also cleaned up the shops terrible bracket they made.

Not terrible but time consuming, we used the plasma to get within about 3/4” then used a cut of wheel. Then attacked it with the grinder for about 3 hours. I didn’t want to risk hitting the axle tube with the plasma so was very conservative. It was tight working around the brake lines etc.Looks way cleaner. Was it a pita getting the brackets off?
Blaine leaves them on as a default option so as not to destroy the value of the axle in case you decide to upgrade at a later date. Was wondering if you left those on in case you didn’t like the mid arm.![]()
That one in the background is not mine it’s a friends. I sold my old XJ to a friend. Here is a photo of my old XJ from our run last year.Do you still have an XJ?
Stock Rubicon one.Which Dana 44 is in the rear? The tubes look so small.
I am done with anyone working on this Jeep but me or Blaine, not worried about going back now, this thing drives to good to change. No going back now. I have the same bad luck getting a shop to do a good job.
I realize that my questions points more to the fact that I sound like an asshole. My apologies, I was not trying to be a smartass.Stock Rubicon one.
Didn’t take it that way at all.I realize that my questions points more to the fact that I sound like an asshole. My apologies, I was not trying to be a smartass.
