I was going to buy a Raptor, but I ain't paying MSRP on one of those.

Here's a pic of me rescuing my dad in one of his F150's when the engine let go due to oiling issues due to bad cam phasers. Had to get a full overhaul. His second engine in about 3 years. I don't like the complexity of the turbo V6 in the new Fords (but the Raptor is bad ass), or the exhaust note, or the interior, or the vacuum hubs on the 4x4. The Coyote engine is pretty solid though.

You just listed my main concern with the F150 and that would be engine complexity. Being turbo charged there is a lot more going on there.

Another option is the new Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. I am not sure how good those are but I probably need to go drive one.

Yours looks great, and that price isn’t bad either!

Cheapest I could find for 1000 miles with what I wanted on it. The Eco Diesel is alright, but fuel cost, DEF, emission complexity, reduced power over the Hemi I would just get a gas truck. Wish I could have optioned the 6.4, that I would have got my checkbook out for. Eco diesel is a sturdy engine, used in Marine application where they run WOT for days at a time. Drive both, you'll buy a Hemi I would bet.

Yep, it’s hard to resist that 6.4 until you see the price 🤣

I’ll have to go drive more when the time comes to buy one.

I would have told my wife we "had" to have the 6.4 to tow our boat. I have to use logic she can comprehend when requisitioning funds. She gave me a big chunk to put into our stock account today, and reminded me twice, "this is for savings, not Jeep parts".

Congrats on the new TJ . . . again :ROFLMAO:! Two questions! First are you planning on taking this TJ to Moab? Second what is the advantage of outboard shocks? Feel free to link a post, I've tried searching for why it's good, but I mostly find posts about people just interested in doing it or having the upgrade in progress!

Looking forward to seeing where this build takes you!

Definitely going to be taking it to Moab.

The advantages of an outboard shock are that you can fit a much longer travel shock, and you can also fit a much better shock. With the factory shock mounts you are only able to run specific shocks, none of which are really fantastic.

With the outboard you can now fit these Fox Factory series shocks (or many others) that can be custom tuned to the application which provide for much better performance on-road and off-road.

Here’s an explanation from Blaine on outboard shocks:

“Like all other single point solutions, outboarding has no inherent benefits. I can outboard your shocks and screw them up so badly that you'll hate your rig.

Outboarding has many opportunities to solve some problems, if you have the problems and want to solve them, it is a good solution. When I invented it for the TJ, I was trying to move the terrible lower shock mount up out of the rocks. Since there was not a place for the top of the shock to move up between the tire and frame for most of the commonly backspaced rims, I cut them into the frame so the top of the shock could go up. I didn't even go with a longer shock the first time I did it. Now it's commonplace to do so and I rarely don't.

You can solve travel issues, shock selection issues, and add some stability if done correctly. You can also mess all of those up if you don't do it right.”

I always planned to mount a HAM in my Jeep, but then I found no one I wheel with uses them. HAMs are expensive, so I’m not too upset by that since CBs are pretty cheap.

I don’t know what that does! All I was getting at is to see what those you go out with run. There’s some useful things with HAM such as APRS (GPS position broadcasts pretty much) but they’re spotty in the places I’d even want it for.

If you do get your HAM license, get a P.O. Box for your address since you can look people up by their call sign and see their address history...

Good advice! This new Jeep comes with a CB, so I’ll run both HAM, CB, and GMRS.
