I'm Stroking It!

Ok so I finally download the alarms instalation manual and figure out how to get it in valet mode. The head and dash lights werent working, the radio quit playing, and it still wont start. Ugh. I play grab and pull under the dash and the left side speakers start working. Im holding on to the light swtch and stretch around to see if the lights are on and see a flash reflected ofd the tool box. I wiggle the switch intensely and the dash lights flicker every now and then. Its the stupid switch. So now Im thinking there may not be any connection between the no start and the inside problems. I go and check, again, power to the plugs and nothing. Then I notice what looks like a hair line crack in the coil pack bar. I pull it off and start to put a little pressure on it and it snaps into. Wow. I put the old one on and it fires up first try! Are you kidding me! Talk about foreplay..... Check everything and take it for a test ride....Jeeps are fun!

Thanks Jeep Nation for all your help. Now we can start on the fun stuff!

@Johnie Burns you should be a writer! Love reading your updates . I can relate to empty nest. I'm in full blown mode myself and my sons been out of the house for 2 years. Raising him as a single mother may be causing my delayed ability to find my own life. But can say that buying my first jeep in May has been a great distraction and helping me find me again. Glad you got yours going and can't wait to hear more!

What are you stroking it out to? 4.6, 4.8?

Not sure if you already answered that, but I didn't see it if you did.

Either way, it looks like you're making progress. I'm curious to know how you end up liking it once it's all said and done!

Ahhh, you guys and your empty nest talk. My daughters are 1 and 4, but the time flies by so fast that I just don't know what I'll do when they're all grown and moved out... :(

Probably lots of projects like this I suspect.

Im not sure, we are starting at least with a 4.8 and we are playing around with how far to push it. But after driving the stock Jeep suspension around last night Im scared chitless at the lack of performance and major body roll with what little air I caught! Time for some Lee Majors Fall guy meets Mcgayver suspension tweeks! Besides, chicks dig it! :lunchacos:

Wow, that'll be cool! Just be careful, I know at some point (maybe it's 5.0?) the cylinder walls get so thin, that it becomes unsafe and greatly reduces the lifespan of the engine. Of course you can achieve different displacements with a combination of boring, stroking, or both.

Either way, I can't wait to see how much power you can get out of it.

What are you doing for engine management? Split Second is a damn good option unless you plan on going with a full standalone solution such as Mega Squirt or similar. There aren't hardly any options for our TJs due to the PCM being fully locked and no one being able to crack it.

But I run the Split Second controller with the 7th injector on my supercharged TJ, and that thing is fantastic! It's 100% plug-and-play, and you can adjust all your fuel trims and everything else using any Windows machine.

Wow! I have a little time while the heads are worked on and we havent ironed that out yet. The Super Charged TJ sounds awesome. What kinda power are you pushing out?

A 5.0 can take a beating.

I haven't had it on the dyno, but it should be around 220-230hp at the wheels, and gobs or torque. Doesn't sound like a lot, but for a 4.0 at the wheels, that's quite a bit!

A 5.0 can take a beating.

Really? All the stuff I read (at one point) on the internet seemed to suggest that going up to 5.0 would lead to serious longevity issues. Of course, this is the internet, so I have to take everything with a grain of salt. Lots of parrots on the internet.

Its raining midlife crisis care packages! (As its sucking dry my wallet!). 7" Halo RGB Lights, Alien Shade Long Bikini Top, Angry Bird Grill, and a new Key Fob for the alarm, (that I have stuck on valet mode!)

I'll throw the top on today then step back and make another plan of attack. They put theft proof lug nuts on the spare tire and lost the key for it, that ought to be fun. Im almost sold on the rough country 6 inch X series long arm lift kit. Id rather put the suspension that the desert racers run where I can jump my little Jeep concubine, anybody have any suggestions? Also Im looking at the plasti-dip with pearl color change in it. Anyone tried that? ALL HAIL JEEP NATION!

It gets even better. I get everything plugged and bolted up, check everything twice, put in a new battery and nothing, wont turn over, no dash lights, and leaving the key on I go to recheck my double check. Go back in to crank it and see no bus on the odometer. It dawns on me I have no clue if the computer was even good. Usually a ground issue so I put a cable to the battery and to ground wiring on the block and the dash lights come on. Im singing my praises as I grab the key and crank. And crank, and crank.... crapsters! And I have an injector leaking fuel everywhere. I clean every terminal twice, pulling wire lume checking anything and everything I can think of and then remember when I bought the Jeep there was a baking pan with a dodge/chysler key bob and an alarm computer brain. Dug under the dash and behold an alarm wiring harness. Plugged the cobera alarm in and it immediately goes off with the key off but off if the key is on. Im again super proud of myself and I crank, and crank, and crank..... It was Friday nite... I pack it up and we go float the Guadalupe Saturday!
We're hitting the Guadalupe today at Sattler! Waters so cold below Canyon Lake Dam!

Ok now I dont wonder any more, wondering why so many people were saying 3 and 4 inch lifts were enough. Why 31's and 33's were enough. Dont go big, you'll be sorry. So I head out on the highway to hit Inks lake and a little wheeling to see what this thing can do. Now its hill country, crap do we ever use 5th gear? Only down hill! 4th, 3rd, 4th, 5th, hit 75 new record right as an 18 wheelerblasts by! Ohhhhh cchhhiitttt! It tries to suck me in the oncoming lane of traffic, I yank on that steering wheel and the wore to Hades suspension stretches like a rubber band before it kicks my way bee lining me for the bar ditch! My super fast Ninja skills kick in along with a 12 year old girl scout scream and Im bouncing around like a soda can in the wind!!! Now I also know why you guys pull the carpet outa your jeeps, so we can hose out the inside after any highway activity! Sassafras yeah when I got her under control I wanted to pull over in the woods and hug a rock! Rock crawling has taken on a whole new meaning to me! All I know is my definition of top priority has just been heightened, by revelation, and Im beefing the tadpoles outa the suapension, and I cant get this stroker built sooooon enough! Now I need to go to my safe place and meditate! One a smoother note, the lake was fun! All hail Jeep Nation!

Where you wheelin' near Inks Lake? Long Ranch is nearby, as well as Adventure Falls. Get her built and we can hit some trails together, if you're game!

Where we weren't supposed to probably! We saw a sign for off roading but wanted to check out the lake and the cabin situation. Im all in on some wheelin, appreciate the invite. Any tips on my build is appreciated. Im looking strongly at the rough country 6 inch long arm x series, an inch or so body lift and some 40 inch tires. Of course thats only because Im stroking it. I dont see how anyone highways with 35's and a stock 4.0. Im running 31's, how bad is it even with the regear to run 35's and do 70?

Ok so now Im looking to fab a tablet into the dash somewhere. I plugged the bluetooth into the ecm port and fired up Torque. Found out the speedo is 4.5 mile an hour off!. So now it makes a little more sense as to the sensation at 75!
