Anyone tried the new Fram oil?

I buy my oil at The Dollar General and Mopar oil filters at Walmart.

Fueled by old wive's tales and internet based self-propagating myths that I once believed too.

After spending several days in their testing labs and saw there processes, I switched to their Tough Guard filter which is a superb quality oil filter. Its micron-level tests show it filters better than many of the "boutique" oil filter that are 3-4X the cost.

Fram *may* have a better product NOW - or maybe even for the past few years, but they had the worst oil filters you could buy in the early 2000's. And I have first hand experience.

I said I have personal experience with how crappy Fram oil filters were in the early 2000s.

I read your "eating crow" post, and even Fram admitted they once had a problem with their oil filters that they have now fixed:

Their new machine vision systems now visually inspect every single filter throughout the manufacturing process for any variances and reject any with problems. If you know how machine vision systems work, you’ll understand they are highly effective at picking up on any abnormalities, even those barely perceptible to the human eye. So that type of problem, the non-secured filtration material, as well other manufacturing problems. will no longer make it past their significantly improved Quality Control system.

I am glad Fram fixed their problems. Unlike everyone else, you had the rare opportunity to meet with actual Fram engineers, tour their facilities, and view their state-of-the-art testing equipment. It sounds like you even made some new friends over at Fram.

I just don't know why you would accuse other people who did not have that opportunity of believing in "old wives tales" and "self-propagating myths" when it used to be true.

Carquest/Advanced, Napa, O'Reilly... They all have house brand oils (and they're all re-labled). Until recently, Carquests engine and transmission oils (ATF, +4, Dex VI, Etc) all came in black bottles with CQ part numbers. Now they say Fram. Pretty sure it's the same juice inside. Prolly Valvoline or something similar.

Exactly- the most important factor is “enough”. Then “frequently enough”.

have used fram oil filters on any vehicle i’ve owned that i serviced myself going back to the early 80’s. never a problem. fram filter and castrol 10w30.

Using fram filters is a choice, I choose not to use their stuff, Because of a couple of incidents that soured me on their products. I admit it was many years ago that I had problems with their filters, I stopped using their stuff and have had no oil filter problems since. For me there are so many other filters on the market, and in my mind better filters available. I dont bad mouth fram, i just dont use their products. I also dont want anyone trying to push me into a product I dont want.
As far as their oil goes, It might be good, and probably is good, but I use a different brand.

Fram factory tours have happy ending?

There is zero chance I will buy Fram anything. They started making the filters for Honda and shortly after people started switching to Motorcraft and looking for the older filters before the Fram revision because they realized how poor the new Honda filters were. just the worst budget thing you can imagine. Honda chose them as a vendor when they were in financial trouble, it's just a bad joke all around. First time I went to Ford to get a filter for my Civic I asked for the Probe filter because that was the original design, guy took a double take and said, "Civic?" The factory Honda filters are so poor the Ford parts guy knows the Civic filter. Kinda sad when you think about it, the Ford parts guy knows the Motorcraft number for the Honda Civic filter because Fram makes the new Honda Civic filter.
