A recipe for an affordable but quality 2.5" lift

Something I havnt seen mentioned here is sway bar links. I’m assuming the stock ones work fine with the 2” lifts? I’m going with ome springs and Rancho 5000x. Going to try and go without a BL and MML and see what happens. Also not much mentioned about front track bar brackets only the rears. What’s the consensus on them. Seems like the rear bracket is almost optional even with out adjustable bars. Same deal with the fronts?

From what I have read on here it is hard to predict how much misalignment the lift will cause. There is also jow much you are willing to live with. On a smaller lift maybe you can do the lift see the impact on misalignment and then make a call? Others with more experience may be along to correct me if I am wrong. FWIW I plan a c.2" lift and will go with adjustable trackbars (if I can get them for my RHD in the UK).

Thanks to @CodaMan for laying the ground work for this one as he inspired me to write this thread as a resource for others.

The issue is that I see people constantly posting about purchasing the OME 2.5" lift, Rough County 2.5" lifts, or others "lift kits". In reality, I think you can save a lot of money and get better quality parts if you piece together your own lift. The problem I have with the OME lift is that the newer shocks they switched to years ago ride terrible in comparison to the shocks they used to use. Rough Country is the same way in that the shocks they include in their kits are absolutely terrible.

For the most part, springs are springs, but the shocks are really what's going to affect your ride quality. That being said, below you'll find a perfect recipe for a 2" lift that uses quality parts and won't break the bank. In addition, this setup shouldn't require a transfer case drop in most cases.


With the addition of a Savvy 1.25" body lift and a 1" Savvy motor mount lift, you can easily turn this lift into a 3.25" lift and set yourself up for a tummy tuck.

Hopefully this thread serves as a resource to others. You're much better off piecing your own lift together as oppose to buying a "kit" in most cases.
Dumb question: am I stacking the 0.5" Rokmen spacers with the 1.25" Savvy spacers for the tummy tuck?

No, all you need for the tummy tuck is Savvy 1.25” spacers.

Definitely got ahead of myself there. I put together a quick parts and price list for the tummy tuck using mostly Savvy parts and the price spiraled out of control PDQ so that won't be happening anytime soon. I may still do the transfer case shifter just because and it's relatively inexpensive, but that next step of MML, SYE, DC driveshaft, BL with front and rear control arms soared past $2000 while still about another $1000 to finish it off.

"...but, honey, parts and such for a Jeep are so much cheaper than the Subaru." :rolleyes:

Be careful how far you go down this rabbit hole. It’s very easy to spend $20,000 plus just fitting 35s 😆

I hear ya! I think if I added it all up there’s about 70k into my TJ. Hard to believe how quickly it all adds up.
 
It looks like pro comp has discontinued these springs. There’s a few fronts around I believe but doesn’t appear to be any rears at least in Canada. I’m thinking of substituting OME instead because they seem to be the most readily available in 2”. Although I don’t like the added costs.
There are some still available on EBAY. I just bought a set but they seem to be going fast.
 
After calling roughly 20 online retailers looking for the Pro Comp Rears, I've come to the conclusion they're out everywhere. Now looking at the OME 2" or the Teraflex 2":

Any body recommend one over the other? The one review on the OME said it bumped his lift to about 3"...
You might try OME 2933 front (Heavy Duty) and 2941 rear (Light Duty). Several people have used this combination and got a good level stance.

The OME you linked to are 2942 (Medium Duty)

Unfortunately, I've already got the Pro Comp fronts, so I'm trying to find a worth successor for the rears...

Also, when you install, remember that they are side specific. They are usually labeled A and B. Measure the lengths if they are not. I believe the longer spring goes on the driver's side.

Wow, I must have gotten the last set of 55298 Rears on Ebay as mine were delivered Monday! I am glad you found another set that will fit the bill.

It looks like the PC55298 has a rate of 175lbs/in whereas the 2941 and 2942 have a rate of 140 and 160, respectively. Looks like the 2942 would be closer in specs to the ones in the OP?

You also need to know the free height of the OME 2941 and 2942 for a real comparison. Ideally, what you want is the lightest spring rate and the longest spring that will give you your desired lift height (~2")

All of our TJ's differ in weight to some extent, so there is no set ride height these springs will give you, only estimates.

OME 942
Free Height 14.96"
160 in/lbs


EXP 55298
Free Height 13.54"
175 in/lbs

I can't find the OME 941 Free Height or Spring Rate
