Metalcloak fender test on stock suspension with 33s

slightly different situation, but with 4" lift and 1.25" body lift I measured my stock fenders first then my MetalCloak fenders and found about a 1.5-2" difference between wheel and fender/well at any point I used to contact with the stock fenders. At the top lip you showed, at the back wall of the fender by the tub, and at the outer lip (I do have the 4" not the 6").

I agree that the truth is in the middle, for me they have been great and where I would rub (and even bent) my stock fenders at full flex, I have room to spare with the MetalCloak.

stock then MC comparisons at ride height with wheel straight. I didn't take measurements at stuff but these show the space difference.

Measurements at ride height don't tell the whole story.

Never said it did, but it does illustrate that all else being the same, my tires had 1.5-2+" more room to move with the MC fenders than they did with the stock ones, which is all I claimed, and in my case, all I needed to stop bending fenders with the tires when at full flex which means they do in fact allow for more tire travel than the stock ones do.

Are they a highline? of course not, and As I stated in my post, I'm not defending their marketing, just providing evidence of the benefits they 'can' provide.

Anytime Metal Cloak is mentioned there is always going to be those who dislike them no matter what. IMO they fill a need and as I've said 100 times for me they were the only company who had flares I could take off easily but also cover my tires enough to hopefully keep the PoPo off my ass. And then when I'm going to run tight trails I can remove the flares. I'd looked at running GenRight or TNT fenders and armor but even with a 6" flare my tires would have stuck out. And then if I was on a tight trail I'd have ended up wedging those flares between things and either bent them or been stuck.
Are they for everyone? NOPE and unfortunately due to the way they have tried to market their products many don't like them and want nothing to do with them. And that's fine.

You could have made your own or adapted flares that attach to the lighter aluminum corners.

My fenders were made by Rev111 before MC was what they are today. My son helped the designers digitize the TJ and wrote the installation docs. When Rev 111 was going under and selling their design to MC he wanted me to put them on my TJ because he helped develop them. So I was able to get the last set they had. At the time they looked weird to me but over time I have grown to like them. For me they have a story behind them and I like that kind of shit.

Yep I could have but I didn't feel like trying to make from flares work. For the REAR yep it'd be fairly easy to make something but it was the fronts that I would have wondered and fought with. And I'm NOT that worried about having steel over aluminum corners. Some day I might care but I don't right now. I get that it's a BIG deal for some but it isn't for me.

Edit: And who else makes a 8" wide flare? Without having to fabricate my own I don't know of any on the market.

I'm glad I was able to provide a thread so you can reiterate your opinion. You're welcome.

We all know what they say about opinions.

It makes me wonder if these flares & fenders were marketed under a different name if there would be less HATE for them? I remember when Rev111 came out with this design.

Nothing would change as far as the functional discussion. And they were ugly even back then. It is what it is, no matter what the name.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like the LOOK of the overline fenders/flare so I have no issues running them no matter what the name.
It's my money and my Jeep so how I choose to build it is my business.

This isn't so much about being LCOG, it's more about finding a simple and viable way to fit a larger tire for clearance and aesthetics without sacrificing uptravel, while avoiding opening pandora's box of suspension lift geometry, steering interference, and drive shaft angles and all the associated expenses and headaches that go along with correcting each of those issues.

Yes, I'm sure a lifted TJ on 33's is more capable, but not everyone needs or wants to deal with such a build.
Here's post 25. What about it? You wanted to fit a larger tire without the work and without the additional benefits of making it fit through the traditional means. Pick your compromises.

Enjoy your ugly fenders. 😂

Thanks I plan to.

There is one PROBLEM and that is that IMO they aren't ugly so I'll enjoy them even more cause I like the way they look.

Sort of like when I started riding a Road Glide back in 2009. Back then they were the Black Sheep of the Harley Davidson family. Now they are the GO TO bike to own. Some of us just have to paint outside the lines.

You mean I'm missing out on changing one thing and then farking around with a dozen different parts to make it all work? Oh boy, sign me up!

You are starting to get it, almost. You're suffering from a myopic viewpoint of how and where and why people use their jeeps. Not everyone is rock crawling, not everyone is going to utilize massive amounts of articulation, and not everyone has the time or money to fark around with a build they simply don't want or need.

If I started a thread with "Hey, I put 31's on my stock TJ" nobody would bat an eye. But put some 33's and fenders on it and it's "No, you're doing it all wrong." Why? Did I magically cross some invisible threshold of tire size that somehow means "Oh, 33's eh? Better mod the crap outta that jeep now."

Yeaaa, sure. I'll get right on that...

You are projecting an awful lot. You picked your compromise to gain about an inch of tire clearance.
