@Wildman can get done in 1 hour what takes me 3 weeks!

Say, when you get that non-LS piece of gold done, let me know and I’ll bring my pipes, you bring your cigars, we’ll go wheel and make crap up.

Taking JJ’s apart for the first time. I borrowed a 2-ton arbor press from a friend who is coming into owner possession of a fab shop in December. He asked me about helping with any projects I have. Yum. We will see if I have the guts to move forward with this build, but it won’t be anytime too soon.

I have to stay focused. Greasing JJ’s.

4 down, 4 to go. It’s just nice to be in the shop with the tools and the Savinelli wrenching!

Unless it’s just hard to see, the second joint from the left looks like it is in the wrong way. The side with the engraved line should be on the snap ring side. That side of the joint is longer to account for the snap ring

I’ll take a closer look. I noticed one side of each snap ring has a sharper edge and it was the side with the line on it. I assumed it went toward the outside like the washers, but I may have made a mistake.

Just in case it's unclear, he's talking about the ball, it's a mistake I've made more times than I care to admit. The ring on the JJ ball faces the snapring side. Seating that snapring is also important, one of mine came apart in Moab. But I don't know that the orientation is the reason. I just think I didn't seat it fully.

Well dadgummit! Is that even a word? It should be. My bad, I’ll take a look. Probably got half of them wrong. 🙄 I measured the snap rings to make sure they were fully seated.A few were a bear with the press I was using. A second set of hands helped.

I only know because I did half of them wrong the first time 😂

I got 5/8 wrong! Upon inspection I also noticed that the ball on the side with the line sticks out further than the other side by maybe 1/16". What's the functional significance of the joints being set up that way? Do we know what difference it makes?

The ball is offset slightly to make up for the extra thickness of the snap ring side of the barrel.
