Please wipe down the frame and axles with mineral spirits (hit them with a wire wheel if you can, but perfect isn't the focus here) and hit them with some flat black Rustoleum. Stop the cancer that's already growing... That doesn't look bad for Canada, but it looks like it's about to go metastatic quickly... If you can't go fully after it to remove the scale and prime/paint/clear, at least inhibit the cancer. Please.

🙂👍. That work is indeed on the to-do list. I was fortunate to rescue this LJ in time enough that the frame is fully solid yet. Going forward it'll not participate in the annual salt festival anymore. Time allowing the frame rust remediation I hope to have done by the end of this season. Gotta spread my time out wisely among the fleet members with special focus on my better half's Jeeps!

I hook it all up and i know something is wrong because the headlights didn't turn on in her jeep. Then she goes "dad something is smoking!!" And she wasn't kidding. I ripped the cables off the jeep battery and prayed that the smoke circuit would finish up ...for a hot second I debated getting the fire extinguisher.

Anyway, that's when I figured out that the black terminal cover has a small red (+) on the other side. Luckily no damage done. I'll do a more thorough inspection of the wiring in that area, but it seems like we're ok for right now. Once corrected, it fired up no problem and we drove it for a little while.

I don't think people go through the effort to clay bar because of the whole "lipstick on a pig" mantra for rust buckets. I love how glassy smooth and protected the Jeep looks when all cleaned up ... and mine's rust-free. Hmm, they may have something to do with each other now that I think about it. I look forward to cruising around in 2050 in my 2006 rust-free, cared for LJ.

I'm a little behind now: I know there's clay bar products that are synthetic and I haven't even dove into ceramic coatings at all.

So I don't know this clay bar. Is my 2004 LJ clear coated? Does clay bar polish the finish like polishing compound with a power polisher and lambs wool bonnet? What is this clay bar?

Yes yours has clear coat. Clay bar removes the contamination from the paint so you can wax or graphite coat it.
 
I washed my Jeep yesterday. Then I started it and got the P0301 code. Let it dry overnight, code is still there, but it runs good. I've read the posts. Have the valve cleaner chem on the way and drove it like I stole it for a while this a.m.
