    Push to start

On my 2001 TJ sport when I bought it, it had a push to start wired up bypassing the ignition. From what I can tell it is a relatively common thing on the TJs. Something on the ignition rod breaks and instead of fixing you go around it by wiring a push to start. Well on mine you put the key in...

    Failing Ignition Replacement

Since I got my Jeep the ignition has been quite temperamental, generally it needed a very slow turn of the key to make it start, if turned quickly you’d get no crank at all, however apart from that it had no issues starting at all. I got in this morning and it failed to start, however after...

Codes for CPS and CMS: do I replace both?

I have P0341, P1391, PO351 01 TJ 4.0 Auto I put an aftermarket CPS in and it ran terrible with a lot of white exhaust. Put the old CPS back in and ran wayyy better, but still struggled to idle and eventually cut out, no no start only crank. It may go again. Do I change the CMP and CPS. I have...

    Electrical Fire

New here, wasn't able to find what I was looking for, hope I don't come across as an idiot. I'll get the the fire after in a minute. I'll start from the beginning. I have a 98 TJ Sahara, 4.0, stickshift. The key would come out when running and you could start it with anything that fit in the...

    Starter switch issue

I recently replaced the starter switch on the steering column of my 99 TJ Because the old one felt crunchy and intermittently would not work. I also replaced the actuator pin since I was there, although the old one looked fine. About 4 years ago I replaced the key tumbler. My problem now, which...

    Ignition cylinder shroud missing?

Haven’t been able to find anything like this on the net. My recently purchased 1997 TJ has something weird going on with the ignition cylinder. There seems to be a shroud or guide missing where you insert the key. What happened here? It functions fine, just makes putting the key in a little...

Does anyone here know what this connector is for on my 2002 TJ?

Does anyone here know what this connector is for on my 2002 TJ? The wires are White with a pink tracer and the other is Blue with a white tracer. I found it hanging on the right side of the steering wheel, by the ignition. The Jeep is starting as it should.

Have to hammer the key to get to turn

Not my issue, but on a family friend's 1999 4.0L. He has an issue where he can't get the key to turn unless he gives it a couple of good smacks with a mallet, and obviously, it gets worse each time. Is this the cylinder or the switch? Or maybe some other part, I don't know how the key-area works...

4.0 missing mounting hardware for ignition coil capacitor

Hello fellow jeepers. So I have a weird issue. The ignition coil capacitor on my jeep is missing the hardware to ground it to the block. I have no idea how it happened, everything was mounted up properly a week or so ago. I went to check my oil yesterday and it was just dangling next to the...

Wipers, blinkers still work with key out

I have a 1999 TJ sport 4.0. I noticed that after it sits for a few days the battery drains. I thought at first I had the key in the wrong position, but then I noticed that my wipers, blinkers and cigarette lighter all have power no matter what position the key is in. I had access to a brand new...

Starter clicks rapidly but engine doesn't turn over

Hello y’all, First time posting to the forum, wish it was in better circumstances. I just replaced our ‘98 TJ with an ‘05 TJ with half the miles and have had problems ever since. I brought it back to the reseller dealership and they fixed a number of problems related to the o2 sensors. Brought...

2003 Wrangler won't start now: Multi-switch or ignition issues?

2003 Auto X Yesterday I noticed a faint electrical smell while driving. Then I noticed a little white smoke coming from top of steering column behind steering wheel. I also noticed that the fog light indicater light was on even though it should not have been. I tapped on the stem a couple of...

Left top down on 98 TJ and it rained inside causing multiple problems

Hello, I have a 98 TJ Sahara and last night I messed up big time by forgetting to put the top up before I went to bed. It rained inside and now there is a rapid clicking noise in the dash, the airbag light is on, the horn went on and wouldn’t turn off so I had to unplug it, and there was some...

    A few questions

I just recently bought a 2007 wrangler Sahara, manual. I'm having an issue where... 1) when I slow down or stop, it sounds like my engine is still revving up high and takes a minute to fall back down, like something is sticking 2)we replaced my ignition switch a few days ago, because when you...

    2006 Jeep Wrangler fuel/ignition problem

I have a 2006 Wrangler and have been experiencing some stalling issue when decelerating. A few days ago the check engine light came on. I checked the diagnostic codes and codes said a mis-fire on cylinder 2 and bad O2 sensor at catalytic converter. The converter was also getting hot and the...

What are the best fuel injectors?

When I got my Jeep close to three years ago I decided to go crazy and replace everything on it to make it last as long as possible and run great! Unfortunately, that ended up being a big mistake that I have paid for very deeply as far as my pockets are concerned. One of the mistakes I made was...

How to change your spark plugs

Compared to the vehicles I grew up with, the amount of ignition maintenance that is required on today's vehicles is almost non-existent in comparison to the engines from the 1960's. Setting the points, making sure the condenser was good, and chalking up the timing marks so you could see them in...

    Bad key switch

my wife has had a few issues where she tried to start the Tj and it won't unless you lift up the key when starting. But last week it wouldn't start and she's been driving my truck since. Auto zone lists two parts to replace it but I'm not sure which item is the culprit for failure. Any...
