Did you see any whales?
We did the Na Pali sunset boat tour yesterday. It was “ok.” The crew said it wasn’t that high of waves, maybe 1-3’, and most driven by winds, so they were a bit choppy, and we were fine, but people were dropping like flies with sea sickness.
I’ve had it before, so it’s not really that funny. We took Dramamine. Just not worth it to risk it. The sick bay looked bad. I wouldn’t do the boat ride again. The heli tour was way better.Sunset was nice. You can see two other islands in this pic if you look close. I think Niihau and Nihoa. Evidently there are 137 islands. News to me.
Picked up some trail doors today. They are Poison Spyder steel skins welded to TJ soft door inners. I figured I could make these nice. I want to weld a piece on top that will serve as an armrest. GR makes a pad. I’m not looking to spend an immense amount of money though. These are for trail and summer. They’ve got Bestop latches. No keys, but there is a number on the locks, so I bet I could get some. I’m going to color match them like I did the corner armor. I am going to countersink the 4 bolts that hold the latches on. It will be a nice project.

I put the trail doors on and adjusted them. They seem to fit fine. Driver door rattles on the latch. I can’t remember the fix for that, so I’m going to search and try to fix that. The black sucks, but the good news is I still have plenty of the color match paint I used for the corner and tailgate armor, so I just need some 2K clear. It’s amazing how much lower the top of the door is. I’ve got ideas from office chair armrests and wheelchair armrests to make a nice pad for the armrest. Looks really easy once I weld a top edge on these.
That jeep is so nice looking. I'm also a fan of the look of half doors and the airy visibility you get driving with them.

Had a few minutes today to start adding an armrest to the trail doors. I went with 1 1/2” 16 gauge square tubing. Drivers side is welded and close to done.

I’ve always loved the look of trail/half doors. These are a little rough. I hope they turn out decent. I picked up the 1K Self Etch Primer and the 2K Clear and 4:1Activator yesterday too. I already have the Victory Red that matches. Just need to finish welding up the armrests. Then I can think about prep and paint. I’m probably going to add a door gasket if I can figure it out. I still have to figure out if I want to carpet the inside or use sound deadener. It’s a fun project so far.
Unless the Genright pad I think you mentioned covers it, fill it all in with weld and grind it down smooth.
Because:
1) looks
2) you want a smooth place to rest your arm
2) right now its a place for dirt and sweat to collect
3) its not that hard
What about JB Weld? Easier than welding it all and easier to file smooth and flat.
I thought the same. When I weld and grind a large gap I tend to leave low spots. Then I have to go back and weld and grind again. Plus, it’s difficult to get an evenly arched surface by grinding. Thanks
