05 Flame Red TJ Build

I really wanted to get @mrblaine 3/4” Amber LED’s, but I cut off my connectors a long time ago. I couldn’t remember how it all went together. I found a ziplock labeled TJ turn signals/bulbs found the Jeep adapter to the park light/turn signal, but didn’t know where the rest of it was. I didn’t even know what I was looking for. Once @rasband photo and @psrivats clicked, I went hunting. Found them. Pumped!

Got them all spliced back in and ready for the swap! I love the solid barrel connectors and the Klein crimpers with adhesive heat shrink. Makes the whole process fun and clean.

I saw your post over in the other thread and thought the same thing - 'Never throw anything away...! Especially not OEM!'

I'm the same way. I have about 3-4 spots/boxes where I 'know/believe' I put the OEM parts that came off over time (smaller stuff like this, usually). I'm surprised what I find/remember I have when I go looking.

Congrats on finding the parts. You know the BMB will be a great product when you reinstall those OEM connectors. (y)

Anyone see anything I'm missing for the auto transmission swap? If it's in red I haven't purchased it yet. This doesn't include tools. I have another spreadsheet for that.

Make sure to factor in that stuff that gets replaced "because you're in there." The u-nuts and bolts that hold the down pipes to the manifold come to mind, as well as the O2 sensors. Anything leaking that needs to be attended to? How's the rear main? You'll have better access to the bottom of the tub than you probably ever will again, so is there anything you want to do to it paint or coating wise?

Rear Main is like a sieve. I’m doing the RMS, Oil Pan, AC Evap, and an 02 sensor (B2, S2). I have the Mopar RMS and the Anaerobic Sealant, and I made a small plastic pusher. I’ve got the Oil Pan and a new Fel-Pro gasket. I cut my exhaust in front of the TCase skid and added a Walker Clamp so I could just drop the Cats. AC Evap line removal tools are on the way. I have the 02 sensor. The others were replaced in ‘17 with 55,000 miles on the rig. I’m at 113,000 now. I have a T10 for the steering cover removal. 🤔

I don’t even know what the u nuts and bolts are that hold the manifold are so I’ll look into that.

Paint is good as far as I know. Good ideas, thanks!

@Mike_H brings up a good point, this is the perfect time for some undertub insulation from the heat and sound.

That is, if that's something you desire.

What is good to install for heat and sound insulation under the tub? Where? Assume transmission tunnel?

Frankly, I haven't looked into it much. Just had it on the back of my mind ever since seeing some folks do it on the FB groups. One could use a heat shield similar to the factory one above-muffler, or a spray-on application (like LizardSkin).

Excessive noise is one of the main things that hurts the TJs ride quality for me, so 50 bucks "while you're in there" seems like a good thing to do imo.

Modified the ‘04 shifter to align with the ‘05 front console by welding a tab. I’ll drill and tap it when I install so the hole is in the right place.

Where does the crank shaft pilot sleeve go? What do I have to remove to install it? How do I remove it? And how do I install the crank shaft pilot sleeve?

I’ve got some rust I can see inside the transmission. Should I just remove it as carefully as possible?

I goes where you pilot bushing would normally reside in the crank pilot.

Edit: found this pic. It at least gives me an idea. I’m thinking a puller and slide hammer to remove the bushing that’s already there, then pound the new one on to whatever depth it needs. More to figure out. I just like to know what I’m doing before I get there.
