The B&M 70264 transmission cooler is no longer in production. I talked to a guy at the company and we talked through size for location. The B&M 70264 is 11"x5 3/4" and I asked him to search for something similar. He came up with B&M 70273. It's a 15,000BTU unit that's the same size as the 70264 and $159. It's on backorder till Feb 20, so I may put an order in for that unless you guys have a better suggestion. I'm already familiar with the Setrab and Derale options.

Anything better?

If you're not going to pony up (Not that you should, or absolutely need to) for the Setrab, I'd hazard a guess that anything you buy will be about the same as anything else.

I'm reading the 42rle manual, and I don't understand how it works, but I do understand it has hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical aspects.

I just don’t think I need a cooler that good. We get four seasons, and high summer heat usually only lasts a couple of weeks.

It may be worthwhile to get the temp sensor installed and see what happens without a cooler.

Great, I have a sensor I’m going to order, bung is already brazed in. That will simplify things during install, though if I want to add a cooler later it would be much easier when I’m swapping the radiator in. I found several smaller Setrab’s in the 7, 10, 13, and 15 fin range for around $135-160. They are quite slender. May do the job if needed. I just need to research them.

You can just add a thermal bypass and have the best of both worlds.

I would just add it now as the added cooling is a good thing out on the trail. And like Blackjack said you can get a bypass so it doesn't go through the cooler when cold and then does when it's warm enough.

Also I don't know if things in the 4.0 are the some but do you need a different CPS for the automatic? On the Magnum engines the manual & the automatic use two different CPS. The automatic version is longer than the manual so guys who swapped to a manual put washers under the CPS to space it out.

What I can tell you right now with ambient temps between 20-50F, my temp gauge is showing about 105-110F with the big Setrab after about an hour of street and highway driving.

And to add, mine will run about 140 when the temps are “normal” late spring, summer, and early fall. When it’s cold though (like 30’s), it runs a bit cooler than I’d like…thus the thermostat I bought and need to install.

No experience with one, but the Tru-Cools have a thermal bypass.

Yes, when cold it's directing the transmission fluid away from the cooler & then when warm it's sending it through the cooler.

For as little as you have weather where it's 32⁰ and below and stays that way for weeks I honestly don't believe that you need a bypass valve.
Just my opinion and others might disagree but I don't think it's necessary were you live.

It can't hurt to add it but it's one more point for issues.
Getting a cooler that has one built in IMO would be the smartest way.

Typical online shopping these days... ugh. Someone buys the part, installs it, and issues a 'return' with the old parts in the box. Companies don't check anymore so they just re-stock it and send it to you when you order new.

I would demand a refund!
