Now I live in the city so everything sucks.
Me too. Used to live on 12 acres and see as far as the eye could see. I can do without the chickens and the horse, but everything else was wonderful. Now I have neighbors. The only good news is the one who insisted on mowing his lawn with his shirt off moved. He was a nice guy though. Honestly didn’t know what a crescent wrench or a flathead screwdriver were though. I lived over there as a part time handyman. Ask him for a tool and he never had a clue what any of them were. 🙄

I’ve had a couple neighbors that never wore shirts in the summer. Unfortunately both males.

I don't always take my shirt off for yard work, but when I do, Its when my neighbors twin daughters are home from college...
Might help if you wear shirts like this.

The diameter of the countersunk hole at the face of the material is not determined by the diameter of the countersink bit but rather by the depth you countersink it to. You want one that is larger than the head or you can end up with a hole that has vertical sides down to the taper.

We have them from 1/2" in diameter all the way up to 1". I use the 1" most often. Practice on similar material first to get the feed and pressure correct or it can chatter which is hard to get cut back flat.

For the hole diameter, if you start with a 5/16" hole, it raise a burr on the back side that you can touch with the countersink bit to clean up. Or, just start with a 3/8" hole and that will give you enough diameter that you aren't countersinking all the way through.

They also make piloted countersinks if you want to wait on the hole and drill that to the correct size for the pilot.

3/8" piloted countersink to match the corner armor countersink and hole size? I'm getting the tools for my tailgate sheet as well.

Going wheelin tomorrow at Denver Creek. I’m sure there will be plenty of snow too. Temps will be 6-12*F. This will be the first time I wheel it with the 4:1 Tera Low. 😁 There are 2 waterfalls where I’ll use 4L and 1st. For the rest I will be in 4L and 2nd or 3rd or 4H 😎. Time to learn how to drive.

Looking forward to your report after using it and seeing the photos.

Have fun.

I ended up getting this bit. I"m not crazy about the smooth shank, but hopefully work fine. My inclination is light pressure and let it do it’s work.

Its been my experience light pressure leads to chatter with counter sinks, but i have a "8 flute", not that style. Looking forward to seeing how it works for you (y) I've seen that style used a lot.

What is the issue with the smooth shank?

BTW- I love their quantity pricing. I guess they think folks can't math. When I see stuff like that and I need multiples, I just load 5 eaches or whatever number I need 1 x however many I want which gives me the individual pricing.

8 flutes are a bitch to keep from chattering in aluminum.

agreed. I have to use hard, decisive pressure in bursts. Hopefully the hole thru style will be different/better.
Oh I know but the problem is when that last little burst takes it too deep and then you have to go back and try to get the other 12 holes the same diameter and depth without making them too deep and saying fuck it, that's good enough.

I've done exactly that
