Happens on my road I live on all the time too. It's a dead end but Google maps says it goes thru to the next road. Larger trucks get stuck down here now and then.

Does any of us? When I was stationed in CA I saw riders doing 40+ MPH while lane splitting. That is just asking for disaster IMO so the times I did it I was going 15 MPH top.

I split lanes frequently when I lived in Cali.
Recognizing that everyone in a car is braindead or trying to kill you helps prevent the kind of stupidity in the video.
Also, not splitting lanes when traffic is actually moving is key.
The biker was at fault in both...ok, maybe legally, the car was wrong for pulling out into him, but you should EXPECT stupid shit like that every time you get on a bike.
Ride like the assholes in cars are trying to hit you, you'll be ok.

40++++ is common place here, even in heavy traffic when cars are trying to move between lanes to get ahead by one car length

You don't approve of lane splitting? I've rode it states where it was allowed/legal but have only done it on a rare occasion since I was always worried about someone cutting me off or something. In crazy CA traffic there were times it was nice.

I don't know that I've ever split moving traffic, "filtering" through stopped traffic and traffic at stop lights I would do all the time
I've also avoided getting rear ended twice by sliding up through traffic at stop lights

Interesting its "discouraged" over 30mph in ca,whatever that means. And at not more than 10mph faster than traffic.

Just like anything else just because it's suggested or even a law doesn't mean people are going to obey them. Those type of bikers are like the off-road community ones who drive off trail or across meadows.
