Are Fox shocks worth it?

You’re right, it’s all about opinions and the way a rig is set up shocks aside. I understand there’s no one “best” shock, but i made this thread so i could hear the advantages and disadvantages and past experiences that others have had. Sure it won’t all be the same on my rig, but it gives me an idea.

I promise you that if you had outboarded Fox steel body 2.0 remote reservoir shocks, we could have a 10 minute conversation about how your rig is set up, roughly what it weighs, what you plan to do with it, what you expect and I could relate that to my tuner and get it so close that only very minor adjustments to the tune would be needed.

I'm currently awaiting a report back as to how close we are on a very difficult set. We'll see. I trust myself and I trust my tuner, let's hope we didn't miss it by too much.

I have a set of 2.0's in the driveway right now that happen to be the very first set I paid for a tune for which started all of this. They have been on the rig and in use for 12 years and 150,000 miles without a single failure and only rebuilt once. I hate your Ranchos. (not really, they are what they are)

You said you have a 2" lift; you're thinking of buying these shocks and going to 3", which is only a temporary stop as you're likely planning to go to 4" eventually.

Why waste the money? Put it toward the regear, lockers, and the bunch of other shit. When all that's done, skip the 3", go to 4", put on proper shocks and outboard. Taking interim steps that won't help you get to the end goal is a waste of money. Put your money toward the steps that will support your end goal instead.

Replaced my totally fine OEM shocks (40.000 miles) of my 2002 TJ (no lift) today, with Fox 2.0 Performance Shocks, which were around $1200 incl shipping and customs to Thailand.

I got them in the expectation of having a less bumpy ride on the concrete roads here.. but I must say, I don't feel any difference at all so far. I can still feel every single bump or pothole. I've read they take about 100 miles to settle.. but I don't expect much to change.

A bit sad now.. I've read many reviews before ordering, saying it's a difference of day and night.. but I cant feel anything at all. I assume everybody who replaced OEM with FOX had bad OEM before

It's all in the tune, which afaik requires the 2.0 remote reservoirs. I can bomb down choppy dirt roads very comfortably now, but they are custom tuned to my rig's weight.

I'm questioning right now, if my old ones even were OEM.. I just remembered that before I had the undercoating painted years ago, they were purple from the previous owner.. and I'm quite sure OEM isn't purple(?). When they painted the undercoating they also coated them black (quite sluggish job) so I totally forgot. Will grab them tomorrow and see if I can scrape the paint of to figure out any brand. Couldn't find purple ones via google.

Found that piece of old picture, before they were painted.. if anybody can guess the brand.. unfortunately the only picture I can see anything from the old shocks.

There seems to be a very wide range either in the generic tune Fox sends out or in people's assessments of them.
