Carpet: yes or no?

Hey davethevenerable, so far, I really like it ! I have noticed a significant noise reduction, my tires are obnoxiously loud, as far as the heat, I have black interior, so it gets a little hot, even without the engine running. I seriously don't feel any heat at all. However as I mentioned in my previous post, I also installed new carpet with thicker padding, i'm sure that plays a part in both the noise and heat factor. The Lizard skin, I would use again, when I get a chance I want to spray the underside of the hood. Hope this helps !

Just found this thread and wanted to see what you think of the Lizard Skin now 1 year later. I'm wanting to lessen the sound and heat in my TJ and I am trying to decide between Lizard Skin and BedRug. My main concern with BedRug is that I get a ton of dust and sand as I offroad mainly in the desert. Thanks!

Any sort of spray on liner will get lots of dust on it and look even shittier. The worst part is you can't remove it like you can BedRug or BedTred to clean it.

That liner looks good for a month or two, then it starts looking like shit forever after.

I couldn't disagree more. My raptor liner has held up great for roughly 2 years and still looks brand new after hosing it out and using a brush. As far as ease of cleaning bedliner is much easier than carpet.

My jeep was cleaned prior to the last trip.

1 trip the floors look like this

No joke 15 seconds with a wet rag (to prove a point) clearly a hose and brush would do a better job.

No carpet for me, pulled it out not long after I bought it and haven’t looked back. It’s too muddy up here for me to want to deal with. I don’t care about the heat, top is off spring through fall (I’m also a heat treater so heat don’t bother me) and want the heat in the winter. I’ve also lost a good amount of hearing over the years so sound doesn’t bother me either. Also I grew up riding in a V8 flatfender with no radio and swampers so comparatively mine is pretty quiet

Hey Chris, I have not noticed any issues with it so far. I do not off road, I'm too old and unskilled. I will be doing mostly camping and light off road in the future, so I thought the lizard skin would serve its purpose. We all have to learn, right ?

I'm going to laugh my ass off if you show up to Moab without carpet I think after pulling the carpet multiple times to clean out the dust and get all the junk that collects underneath you may convert.

Ultimately I dumped the carpet after using my jeep in the snow and leaving it up in lake Tahoe for a few months. When I got back the carpet was still damp in the passenger's footwell and surface rust started to form. Pulling the carpet, removing the surface rust, and adding Bedliner was my way to fix that from ever happening again.

I'm surprised how many carpet fans there are out there. My TJ came to me without it & it never crossed my mind to put it in

I'm in the same position. Didn't have it when I bought it 11 years ago and I haven't put it in since. I'm not giving advice against carpet. The cab is noisy at highway speeds but I don't do much freeway driving. Without carpet it is easy to clean after trips. I do have floor mats.

I live in a very hot area. I installed insulation and carpeting plus a boom mat on the roof of the hard top. It really does help. I don't worry about water, just vacuum occasionally.

I think I have to leave it as is, I don't see much of an option to go over the bedliner (talked with Lizard Skin and they said I would need to pressure wash the bed liner and get all the dust out...that seems unlikely). Think I have to be content with the look and noise as is. Maybe just get a louder stereo? Install and Amp and some new speakers? (My girls can't hear our audiobooks on the highway, haha!)

No carpet here either. PO had tan bedliner applied inside with rubber floor mats and that works fine for me. The floor gets a little warm around town or low speed. Never noticed any floor noise over the wind. It's a Jeep, not the standard of luxury and refinement.
