Daily Driver Brake Recommendations

Are you really going to make me go dig up your commentary about why you chose the recovery gear you did? Or did you already forget what you said?

I can go pull it up if you'd like. I never said anything bas about your recovery gear. I have my reasons for going with what I did but it had nothing to do with your gear.

I appreciate your guys input and assurances

As to MrBlaine, Ive read some of your posts and all of your posts to me, and respect your great knowledge and experience

As to the question of videos, yes some youtubers do show comparative results , but they are not all retailers of product. So therein is perhaps one of the key differences. I dunno, just sharing what Ive seen from the hot roddin and drag racing scene

Either way, Im intrigued greatly so I appreciate all the indepth knowledge sharing. I definitely want a Hydraboost setup.

So I should not buy the Vans setup posted from that link ur sayin?? Do you provide a reworked and improved version?? If so, Id like to see the link if available.

Is there also an improved caliber design??
I put C5 brakes on my 78 Z28, and theres even newer setups, and just curious if the Jeep TJ options are as vast

Like I said I just got a 03 TJ just 3 weeks ago and its my first foray into this Jeep arena. Wanna gut and rebuild it ground up

Thank you sir

Have you ever done any serious testing of brakes and brake parts to try and deliver that comparison you are requesting?
Sorry missed this

Yes, in the classic car / pro-touring community we have all swapped out the antiquated caliper and drum systems to increased size calipers, rear disc, hydraboost, etc,

I am no expert tho, but yes for sure we have done comparisons. Ive done a hydraboost swap, a C5 brake swap 15 years ago on my 78 z28, and rear disc conversion on my 1970 Olds 442 (actually swapped Olds O rear end for Chevy 12 bolt)

All have been vastly improved foundations
This is why I was inquiring Vs just a $$ set of pads

I am not a braking engineer to figure out the problems, just another enthusiast looking for rhe best foundations to build on

That isn't the answer to the question you asked which is where are the unbiased quantifiable comparisons.

Is there a better caliper upgrade for front and rear??
I need to also swap my drums out so if anyone has links/ideas
Please advise

Go browse black magic brakes website. Blaine has everything. No unnecessary exaggerations of capability, parts won't come in fancy painted colors, but everything works great. Send him a note if you have specific questions and you'll have the best advice you can get.

If you are doing a brake upgrade to simply look cool, then BMB not the website for you, go do Brembo or Wildwood or whatever. If you want real performance, no better brakes than BMB.

ps:
And man, it's hydroboost, not hydra- !! Words have meanings and spelling and pronunciation matter 🙂

Hydra. For reference.

You can’t have any more integrity than Blaine. He will always back his products, and if you’re not happy he’ll make it right. He makes himself available and goes above and beyond to reach perfection in all his products and packaging. If it’s not right he won’t have it manufactured and sold on the BMB website.

Or give Blaine a call and discuss what the end goal is. Are we stopping 40's or 31's?

Yes. I’ve tried a few different calipers on my TJs over the past 20 years. When I ordered the front BMB pads, I also decided to order new front calipers. At the time, I was using a set of Centric coated calipers that were less than a year old but the coating was not holding up to the road salt.

I went with Blaine’s calipers because I trusted that they would be the best stock replacement calipers available. They were so nice that I followed up with a set of rear calipers. Both sets have worked perfect for 2 years and they still look new.

Don't blame that on me. We are at the same mercies of plating companies that everyone else is. Sometimes we get good plating and sometimes we don't. I wish it were different but not much we can do about it. That said, the poor performance of that Centric plating is why we moved away from them. Just terrible for the most part.

No issues with the calipers you sent, they’ve help up perfectly well. It was the Centric calipers from Rock Auto that didn’t hold up.

Lookin at PowerStop right now

You spend your money how you see fit but I strongly encourage you to avoid powder coated calipers. They can't powdercoat down past the outer edge where the dust seal snaps in. So, what happens is that starts rusting right away and then pushes the dust boot inward which then binds up the piston. Get plated, or paint them yourself make sure you get paint down in the area that the dust seal snaps into.

Also, no one can make a stock caliper work better. They can work worse, but never better.
