Do 4 hole fuel injectors make a difference

I have a 2001 tj with a 2.5l and I'm trying to finish off my engine mods (I'm 19) and I've already done a cold air intake and i really like the way it improved the Jeep and the sound, a new cat back exhaust and I'm wanting to change the fuel injectors to 4 hole and a throttle body spacer and after all that a new tune one the jeep. I'm really trying to boost whatever performance I can get out of this lackluster engine I'm stuck with.




I've already changed the shocks out for rancho rs5000x, bf Goodrich ko2, new bumpers, led headlights and taillights and a winch. It can handle itself on a trail, even got the scratches to prove it.
 
99% of the folks here will recommend going back to the factory intake as it filters much better, and flows more air than the engine requires.

A throttle body spacer will give you as much extra power as a new decal, maybe even less. There have been discussions on the 4 hole injectors, and I believe the consensus is that they don't provide any gains.

I think that in a wheezy 4 cyl any bit of difference in throttle response will be welcom. threads I have read on different forums some people said it helped w throttle response and some have said it flooded their engines w fuel. I think if u did a FULL exhaust with a 4.0 throttle body and dremeled the intake to match that you might make some noticible gains with aftermarket injectors. Especially if the ones you have are clogged.
 
I've been running 4 hole injectors for about 5 years after one of the OEM cracked. The most I can report is a very smooth idle.

The spacers are really intended for use on carburetor applications and will do nothing for the 2.5 throttle body.
 
Unless you have a bad injector you will not get any benifit from the change. A throttle body spacer on a fuel injected vehicle is just a waste of money. It will do absolutely nothing. Same with adding a larger throttle body.
 
Your cold air intake may give a placebo boost in performance but it won't do so in reality.

Not to mention its air filter is totally ineffective at filtering out the fine dust and dirt that is so harmful to engines. Truly, no exaggeration.... especially where the TJ is concerned since it tends to get used in dusty conditions. You really should run the factory air intake system with a good paper element air filter like from AC-Delco, Wix, or Purolator. Those filter out the stuff that is harmful to your engine without restricting air flow. They have a huge surface area which means no air flow restriction.

The factory air intake is absolutely the best air intake to use, and it was designed to easily flow far more air than the engine could consume at wide-open throttle and redline rpms. Unlike many other air intake systems, the TJ's is not (!!) restrictive in the least. It was purposely designed to be non-restrictive.

A throttle body spacer will not help even .001% either. Nothing, nada, zero. Spacers can and do help performance when placed under "wet" air intakes like carburetors and the old first-generation throttle bodies that had a fuel injector in them. The TJ's throttle body is a second-generation "dry" type in that only air passes through it and the intake manifold. Fuel is injected below the air intake so no fuel passes through the throttle body. Installing a spacer under newer generation "dry" throttle bodies like our TJs have does absolutely nothing except cost you $$$ and make the manufacturer $$$. Really, don't waste your $$$ on a spacer.

4-hole injectors are controversial. At best they can smooth out the idle but they won't actually improve performance over the factory fuel injectors. The reason is that 4-hole injectors don't put more fuel into the engine than the factory injectors do. The engine computer won't allow that since it very tightly controls the air/fuel ratio. Once the computer, via the O2 sensors, is told there's enough fuel in the air/fuel mixture, it cuts the injector off so it won't spray any more fuel. So once either type injector has sprayed the correct amount of fuel, the computer cuts it off. 4 more holes in the injector won't change the performance or HP at all.

How can you improve actual performance? If you're running bigger than stock tires, that has a dramatic effect on performance. Bigger tires are harder for the engine to turn, plus at 65 mph (for example), the engine rpms are lower for big tires than they are for smaller tires. Lower rpms with bigger tires means less power. The engine actually puts out more power at the same speed than it would with bigger tires that reduces the engine rpms.

If you're running bigger than factory size tires, you can regear your axles to a lower ratio that will raise the engine rpms enough to restore the power lost by having installed larger tires. Doing that is common but it's not cheap to do.... costs average $1200-1600 to regear both axles. I personally have regeared both of my axles three times due to bigger tire sizes on two different Jeeps. Regearing a Jeep can produce a DRAMATIC boost in power.

I know when I was 19 I was all about more power but it took more than a few years to finally learn what helps and what doesn't. Avoid things like different air filters, "performance" spark plugs, throttle body spacers, etc. and use that $$$ elsewhere where it can really help.

well said sir. my last jeep was a 2.5 and i put a header on it, then went with the 4-hole injectors. butt dino said hell yea.....a few days later the computer said hell no and dialed back the mixture... Jerry is 100% right, the only economical way to get more power from a 2.5 is trade it on a 4.0 !

Even the 4.0 is not a performance vehicle. Take it for what it is, a tractor motor with good torque shaped like a brick. Use it as intended, no doors and off road, re-gear if you want larger tires. If you want speed buy a Corvette.
