Front axle questions

Hello fine Jeep folks.

I have (what I assume is) a stock TJ Dana 30 front axle. I am looking to beef it up a bit, and was thinking about the

REVOLUTION GEAR Dana 30 30-SPLINE FRONT AXLE KIT
and a
EATON DETROIT TRUETRAC DIFFERENTIAL DANA 44 30 SPLINE 3.73 AND DOWN. LSD.

I have attached a few pics, and was curious of y’all’s opinion on these. I will be running 35” tires FYI, and using it for light/moderate wheeling on weekends (not a daily).

Your front axle is fine with 35's so long as you're not also installing a locker into it. The only time I'd recommend a 30 spline upgrade for the front would be if you were also installing a true locker in your front Dana 30.

Well, that’s good news! In your opinion, I shouldn’t need to upgrade with the LSD diff, if I am taking It up the passes in the Rockies to fish & camp? I don’t see myself doing any difficult/ technical trails or big rocks in the near future, but I do get pretty deep in the back country.. and I would eventually like to hit the good spots (Moab/rubicon bypasses etc.) please understand, I don’t know my ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to off roading..

i actually have an 8.8 in the rear, I’m not sure what it has in it as far as diff/gearing yet. I’ll be looking at it closer tomorrow to see what is in it currently.

The listing you posted for the Detroit Truetrac is for a Dana 44 axle with 30 splines. According to Eaton's website, the only Truetrac available for the Dana 30 axle is for the stock 27 spline. Your upgrade to the Dana 30 axle with 30 splines will not be compatible with the Detroit Truetrac LSD.

FYI, you will also need to know what gear ratio you have in your Dana 30, as there are 2 different diff carrier sizes based on the gear ratio. There is a metal tag between the 2 side diff cover bolts (on the left side of your picture, behind the tie rod) that should tell you the gear ratio of your diff.
