James & The Sahara Build Thread

You rock. I'll talk later about making this happen I really appreciate it. Sadly internet is not too great where I am right now.

My sister-in-law plays volleyball for Auburn. We are Hog fans though. This is our tailgate set up on Thursday in Little Rock. Weather wasn't the best but it got better as the night went on!

Edit: Though we are Hog fans SEC over all. Until an SEC team is playing Arkansas of corse lol.

In that case, yes I have the metal cage thingy for the unit.
I want the radio but I know in the back of my mind I would feel so bad if it got stolen. Considering these guys know where my vehicle parks and that I will never lock it I am looking into alternative radios, like putting a stocker in, or a really small radio/remote, possibly just a cb in the dash spot and a mini radio somewhere. Gonna research options on wiring different things in. Super annoying.

Quadratec makes a locking faceplate. That might be a good solution!

Sucks about the radio man, I've had a few stolen before :( I take the faceplate off the one in the Jeep every night, or if I'll be away from it for a while. It's a bit of a pain carrying it around, but at least the radio shouldn't get stolen.

So update, just bought another radio for $125.00... yay...

I bought a remanufactured factory radio that had aux wired within it. I don't like the simple factory radios and only want aux so this should work well and prevent theft. 1FactoryRadio is the seller so pretty stoked. Its a RAS dual 7 pin, so if the audio is poor I can always amp it. I will be buying one of those sirius units to put in the glovebox to keep there indefinately so I will still have XM for the road trips that go longer than my playlist lol. I couldn't find too much on this company so I'll make sure to share my experience.

Time for a Tuffy under seat lock box.
I also wanted to take a minute and thank you btw. I really appreciated the offer and wanted to take you up on it, but I really want to deter theft as much as possible. The alpine would scream steal me!

Also if anyone knows about those antitheft brackets that came on stock tj's if they are worth the effort please let me know so I can pick one up.

Sucks your stuff got stolen. Let me know what you decide on for the center console. My key is not working in mine and trying to decide what to do.

Considering they ripped the lid off the console since it was locked and beyond repair gonna be replacing it. Whatever I have left after axles will be towards tuffy stuff. Glovebox will be first I believe.

I'm at one of the remanufactured radios with aux cord as well. Let me know how you like it.

Wow I'm honestly surprised people steal radios still. Aren't they only worth a few bucks? Like for f*cks sake... I know a lot of pawn shops won't even take stuff like that anymore since it's obviously stolen. I guess a radio doesn't seem worth it especially the ones used in TJs. But what do I know!

I got a call today they have a lead on a radio theft in Auburn so more to follow on that. I ordered two replacement dash cams as well in addition to some cbs/gentex mirror. I am planning on neatly installing everything around the mirror so the dash cam isn't as obvious. I left a setting on that where when the door opens the screen light up, so definitely going to setup settings so people can't see it. Installing a second dash cam in the rear of the jeep in the rear of the vehicle recording the cab. I have been planning on wiring all this stuff up for a while so excited for these smaller mods. Seriously though stealing a $100.00 pioneer stereo, ugh.

Glad you found a solution to your stereo conundrum. Wow, cassette? Didn't know those still existed!
Literally choose the one with a cassette option on it to make it look as worthless as possible to a thief. Also pretty sure it was the stock option on my TJ.

I must have missed the fact that you have an aftermarket radio. Makes more sense. Do you have the wiring harness for the gentex mirror? I was bidding on one on eBay does 25 bucks but couldn't figure out how to wire it and was glad it sold for like $25.50 to someone else.

I bought it slightly overpriced from a seller that has his own wiring harnesses. I don't solder often and didn't see the need for a $40.00 soldering station when I could buy the complete kit.

This is what I bought: https://www.ebay.com/itm/222604863899

You should do a write up on the install for that unless it's just plug and play. Waiting for your review of it. I really wants gentex mirror solely for the compass aspect. Excited to see you get it to work! And do you have the actual wiring harness under dash defrost panel?

Trust me I am pretty throughout in terms of making sure I share what happens here. I do not know if I currently have a wiring harness but I know for a fact I don't have a temp sensor. I will be using the included wiring kit to wire it all the way through. I will be neatly looming that with my new dash cam wires/cb wires along the windsheild. Excited to see how it turns out.

Me too! Pull your dash defrost cover and see if there's a white wiring harness just sitting there by the black defrost vent (also I thought your name was James and the Sarah when I first saw your screen name. Irrelevant but funny, I think, at my expense)

That's pretty funny ahaha. I'll pull the dash cover and see tomorrow, I have before many times & never noticed it if it is there... That would make life hella easy.

I'll be jealous if you have the harness. It is strange seems no one knows why some jeeps do and some don't have it. Almost seems entirely random. I'm really looking forward to your install process though and hope you don't have the harness soley for the reason of a good informative write up of which I haven't been able to locate! Most are on other forums and the pictures are long gone.
