Midnight LJR Build

What I do has exactly zero to do with money. It simply doesn't motivate me. Other things motivate me very highly, money isn't on that list.

If you look at Mike's happiness and enlightenment he has displayed after the ride home, that is my motivation, pure and simple. I like to teach, I like to show people what can be done and how their expectations can be met. My sole desire is for him to be thrilled and then arrive at a contented pleasure each and every time he drives and uses his rig. You can't buy that.

Blaine, this post is a gem and I loved reading it. It is really refreshing to see this in the money driven world we live in today.

Some people will "get" your philosophy, and some won't (and nothing wrong with that). I think I do understand where you are coming from. You remind me a LOT of my Professor back in grad school. The older I get, the more I understand the wisdom of his words.

@Midnight LJR .. your Jeep is really nicely done. Every single detail is thought out and well finished out. Loved the photos and loved reading your description.

Thank you, I appreciate that. I started this thread to try to give back to the forum because it helped me so much when researching my Jeep. What I didn’t expect was all the friends I would make from it.

@Midnight LJR I know we spoke a while back about your vibes, after the TT. Did you or did you not have extra vibes at idle? If yes, how was that corrected if it was corrected?

Congrats on your Jeep by the way!

@mrblaine can you please go into detail about the rear brake fittings? (Specific sizes) I am beginning my mid arm this coming week and would really like for the rear brake routing and look to resemble what you’ve done.

What is the part number or size for the frame side adapter to go from standard brake line to an line? Do you have the line made local?

What is the specs on the new vent fitting?

What is the part number/specs on the brake junction t fitting and holding bolt?

Great job in the work by the way!

Thanks!

Think I found a site that addresses all the parts I need frame side.

Just to verify the frame side line is 3/16, correct?

Sometimes I do, sometimes they are on Summit or our local Kartek. I get the length first. Then use the search on Summit or similar to find the length. Pick one hose end on the left menu -3 AN, get results, pick second hose end as -3 AN, and then start looking through the results for the length.
https://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/brake-hoses-individual/hose-end-1/minus-3-an?SortBy=BestKeywordMatch&SortOrder=Ascending&N=part-type:brake-hoses-individual+hose-end-1:minus-3-an+hose-end-2:minus-3-an

That fitting is a standard 3/8-24 inverted flare female by -3 AN adapter.
A version from Summit. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/rus-641291
Mounting tab is the basic brake line clip that lots of folks supply.

I buy the ones from Carling in bulk. I can send you a couple if you like.

What is the specs on the new vent fitting?
That one took me a second since we don't use a new vent fitting. We use the standard vent bolt and use a nut as a spacer to make up the space needed for the shoulder.

I'm not going to help you figure out how to bolt something down with a hole in it. Here is the T adapter. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/rus-640503

There is a small increase in NVH at idle with the TT. It goes away completely as soon as you touch the throttle. It does not bother me, and I don’t believe there is a way to “fix” it. That being said, I could see how it could bother someone. My current advice I give people is if you find yourself sitting at a dead stop in traffic a lot, and are sensitive to vibrations. I would find someone in your area with the TT and make sure it won’t bother you before proceeding. For me I avoid traffic at all costs in my life. So don’t spend a lot of time stopped while driving. So don’t even think about it.

The did get the driveline vibrations fixed that where happening while driving.

Thanks Blaine! I’m going to work on putting a parts list together and get things ordered this evening.

Yes. Referring only to the idle vibes. I saw how you fixed the highway vibes.

I’m starting on a project now similar to yours. It may not look like much and some may not even know what these are. Sending them out this week to get re-finished. This will be a slow project. I’ll throw a few hundred bucks at it here and there till it’s finished. Then it’ll be new wheel time.

Question for @mrblaine, what is required to run the hi steer arms with the savvy steering?

A different steering set up. That and throw left high steer arm in the trash where it belongs or you will regret it. The tie rod goes on the lower steering arms.

Your patience in that regard is impressive to the say least.
My helper that you met and I were discussing your build. The conversation centered around the fact that we aren't particularly skilled or great at what we do, we are just patient, persistent, and don't quit until we have it right.

I wonder how much you would have to raise the idle to smooth out the vibes? That alone would not be cost effective, but if you have other things you want to change it might be worth buying tuning software.
