LOL... fryer rack... I meant dryer rack.
I got the driver's seat back together but not back in the Jeep yet. What a PITA it is to get that bottom cover back on. Fishing those bars through the hoops and fabric sucked. I wonder how they did that at the factory.

Aren't those hoops (rings) pinched onto the rods?
That's the way they were in my old dodge.

Nope. The rings are connected to a rod that is embedded in the foam. Then there is a rod that goes through the rings and the fabric and it is a pain to put back in.

The rods are put in place then the hog rings are clamped over both rods.

Oh I see, the way they originally did it was to add the rings to both rods. Doing it yourself, without a hog ring pliers is a pain and you need to fish the seat cover wire.

Hi I'm new to the forum. I have a 2001 TJ and am also having problems with the seat height , mine is too high.
I'm 6ft 2in I've fitted Big Boy brackets which give me the leg room I need but I need a way to lower the seats.
I've noticed a lever on the seat consul which I can't see what it does. Can anybody help with what this lever is and with any ideas about lowering the seat. Thanks a Lot

I feel sorry for you because going up is easy but making it come down may not be. Hopefully others will have a better idea but I'd say go to a local welder and have a conversation with him. Possibly cutting the "foot", where the bolt goes through, off and then cutting a piece of metal out to reduce the height and then welding the foot back on.

On a side note you must be a wealthy man... TJs guzzle gas and you are in Germany where gas isn't so cheap

That lever is the release for the tumble forward of the entire seat. If you push it down carefully with the seat on the base in the vehicle, it will release the seat so that the whole seat raises in the back and pivots up a bit and then all the way forward. It is the lever that is moved when you move the lever on the side of the seat up near the shoulder. Late model has a lever, early has a loop of webbing.

If you switched to newer 03-06 seats. They sit 1.5" lower. Probably run about $500 shipped. Maybe $600. Less if you can find local. And from what I've read they are very comfortable. I'm a big guy too. And need the extra room. From what I have read they are bigger seats and at least just as comfortable if not more comfortable than the 97-02 seats. You need the seat and all brackets that mount directly to the tub.

I used 5/8” nuts and used a bench vice to push a bolt in and weld it from opposite side.
Next I did the same with a flanged nut to the other large nut.

Next I weld the two large nuts together netting an inch in height.
My seats have metric studs and nuts on the sliders. I bought 5/16 x18 bolts and nuts because when at store couldn’t remember the metric thread pitch.

Thanks for the ideas "Moab with seats from a 03-06" unfortunately jeep wrangler are not a very common car on the roads here and used parts are difficult to come by. If anybody knows of seats from a european car that fit please let me know.
for "mgroeger" yes petrol is expensive here but I only use the wrangler in the village I live for taking the dog out and pulling a trailer impossible to use it on the Motorways firstly with a top speed of about 70 mph its uncomfortable , dangerous and very slow. American cars although very well built are not built for speed as on the German Autobahns.

I've seen posts where folks use Hyundai Tiburon seats here in the US. Not sure if they have Tiburon's or some other Hyundai equivalent over there?
