So far not impressed with Johnny Joints

what Are you using for a grease gun, if it’s a pistol grip style you probably can’t make enough pressure to force grease in, the long lever high pressure style is the one to get.
Have and tried both.

Yeah if you guys think forcing grease into these is the answer I can dig up some blown out Johnny joints that I forced grease into...

definitely don’t force it.

All it does is extrude the race out through the hole in the end washer. Not even close to blown up and nothing that taking them apart, cleaning them out and reassembling them correctly won't fix. At the worst you need a 10 dollar race kit to fix them.

I have some races that are torn/blown out and I can only assume it is from trying to force grease in them. I have since learned it is best to just take them apart to clean and grease them if they start making noise.

I am glad you sold them also. Here is what they look like Red, White and Blue.

When I lived in Illinois, I had to grease my Johnny joints about every 6 months. When I moved to Southern California I only greased my Johnny Joints on my short arms once in over a year and a half. I have since sold those short arms when I went with mid arms.

The reason I had to grease the joints frequently was due to groaning noises over bumps. I never had squeaks just groaning noises.

I'm curious to see what caused this issue. Its not what I normally hear about JJ. I chose a DDB bushing because I didn't want to deal with maintenance, but a new joint squeking was never a concern. I hope you get it figured out soon.

Here you go @mrblaine ... JJ disassembled. Photos before and after cleaning. I picked the joint with the least movement and making the most noise. I tried to get as many angles as possible since you won't be inspecting them first-hand. There seems to be a couple rotational marks on the center ball that wouldn't come off. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

Just as a point of reference, I was able to remove the LCA and bolts while the rig was sitting at ride height on the ground under its own weight, so no binding was apparent.

EDIT: easily remove.

Put some Redline CV-2 on just the ball and a light film in the races. Line them up carefully when you mash them back together and you should be good. The machining marks around the center of the ball are fine, don't worry about them.

Good deal. I don't have Redline CV-2, but I do have the JJ moly grease that Currie gave me. Can I use that or should I get the Redline? By the way, just took rear LCA off and was worse than front. Dry and rusty, wtf?

Exactly why I don't like the body mounted grease fittings. I would not put them back together without the CV-2.

It is very easy to test why we use it. You have the stuff from Currie. Do one with it and then the other with the Redline. Put a screwdriver through the bolt hole and check the breakaway torque. The difference is astounding.
I just assembled one with the Currie grease. It's easy to move the ball around; can do so with my fingers. Is it supposed to be that easy? Can't test against redline yet till I get it.

If you have new Currie JJs sitting on the bench, do you change out the grease before even installing them?
