Anything can and will rust where the roads are salted like there in Ohio.
Exposed, yes such as the ends. But I don't think it's normal for a JJ ball to rust like that in Ohio...

There definitely was. Look at my pics above. Water in between the race and ball.
I tried but couldn't get them to take any. Would jist squeeze out between zerk and grease gun fitting.Did you grease through the fittings on day 1? I'm wondering if packing them with grease would have stopped the intrusion. That's why I greased mine anyway.
It's the "secret grease"! Where have I heard that before?
Sorry, I forgot to block the Metalcloak Brigade from this JJ thread .
Sorry, fell asleep last night. I will collect my thoughts later on today and provide you with as much of my experience as I can remember lol. Install and performance experience?I’m curious of your experience so far since I just got these today to install over the holiday. I figure if there’s any lessons to learn ahead of time it’s worth engaging a little.
ignore the non matching set, those are on loan from another jeeper nearby.

I thought he tried to grease them and it wouldn't go?Do you think there was water intrusion through those fittings leading to the rust?
Correct.I thought he tried to grease them and it wouldn't go?
Rarely. We haven't had this issue ever but if we did, I would make a habit of replacing the grease. If you have new Currie JJs sitting on the bench, do you change out the grease before even installing them?
Sorry so delayed...Install was a breeze, and adjustment is even easier. I'm so glad I got the double adjustables. Even when considering the greasing issues I've encountered, i'm glad I spent the money on them. When wheeling they are amazing regarding articulation; love the way my jeep handles off road. And after buying the tool (highly recommend), disassembling them, and greasing them, I've learned that they are easily maintained. Having reassembled them with CV-2 grease, I am curious to see how long they last till the next maintenance is due. On a side note, after working on 16 JJs, I can disassemble, clean, grease, and reassemble a JJ in no time now.I’m curious of your experience so far since I just got these today to install over the holiday. Did you compare the breakaway torque needed to move the ball after you used the CV-2? That and the rest is spot on. Folks act like it a major ordeal to take them apart and grease them and if you are just the tiniest bit mechanically inclined, it isn't any harder than changing oil.Sorry so delayed...Install was a breeze, and adjustment is even easier. In all fairness, I've seen some people struggle changing the oil.

Well, my method to test the breakaway torque was less than precise and relies on my hand dyno...but yes, stuck a large screwdriver in the joint and rotated. With that said, couldn't tell a whole lot of difference. Only difference was the Currie grease provides little to no resistance, almost loose feeling and the CV-2 feels like more controlled smooth movement. Have a better method for testing? What am I looking for and what is desired from the joint?Did you compare the breakaway torque needed to move the ball after you used the CV-2? That and the rest is spot on. I just checked the breakaway torque on my CAs installed on my rig under its own weight to see if I can move them. I can grab them by the barrel and twist them. Is that normal? Should I be able to do that by hand? When we get a JJ, it takes a long screwdriver to move it.
Entirely possible with that grease.I just checked the breakaway torque on my CAs installed on my rig under its own weight to see if I can move them. I can grab them by the barrel and twist them. Is that normal? Should I be able to do that by hand?
