Social media cell phone zombies...

If Metalcloak were to send me a free lift (haha, I wish!) to review, I would happily review it over the period of 2+ years and offer my unbiased feedback 100%.

Based off what I see on youtube, a lot of companies will "sponsor/gift" a "youtuber" and throw some parts/cloths/hats,shoes,bikinis, etc. their way to review and try out in front of their viewers.

From what I understand the more viewers or subscribers that you have the more likely that you are going to get the new shoes, clothes, or whatever it is you want to review from the company.

Have you ever thought approaching a company with the same idea? Being up front with being unbiased and transparent in your reviews. You probably have the viewers/members..

Just a thought. Would be cool to see a forum built TJ. The worst they could say is, "no."

That's exactly how it works. Most sellers will even give you free stuff on Amazon if you agree to write them a lengthy review of the product.

This is something I have thought of. They'd certainly get a lot of exposure out of it and an unbiased review over the long term. It's something I should reach out and suggest to several companies.

It would be cool to have a forum built TJ. I could even have it wrapped to match the forum, with the sponsors logos on it too.

Exactly or just a small sticker somewhere on it...

I know this is a page or two late, but I'm
Bored at 3am at work. The social media problem is an endemic. And this is also coming from a 20 year old that has watched all his classmates in highschool and now college become total zombies. I deleted my facebook years ago. Refuse to use twitter or other crap like that. I am registered for two forums, this and another wrangler forum I haven't used once. I'm Not sure if they are considered social media but if they are that's the extent for me. My fiancée however is not the same. Much of her free time is spent on Facebook. And her moms the same way. Slowly I'm teaching her the errors of her ways. She no longer uses useless twitter. Maybe I was raised diffently I thought? But my family is relatively glued to their phones too.

It is really funny watching zombie people bump into crap and not realize where they are going but at the same time it's honestly really depressing. I knew one other person around my age that doesn't use social media or anything but now he got a smart phone and he is glued to it too. Frankly I can't find anyone my age that thinks it's a problem. Obviously I've taken an extreme by refusing to be apart of it, but it makes me happy to refuse that usesless crap.

People are definitely devolving. As a society we are screwed. I support the idea of living in a poor cell area, and think maybe... they should dismantle half of the cell towers? :) could be good for this country.

I enjoy my actual life. I won't lie and say I don't use my phone. I use it a lot. But my time on my phone is spent learning how to do something that I consider useful like working on a Jeep or a gun or building a paint booth etc. my level of wisdom compared to the old timers on this forum is minimal. But when I'm in my later years, I can't imagine how useless the my generation will be.

I could not agree more. Social media has made us as a society less social. My kids talk about all their "friends" on social media. They would be lucky to know 1/5th of those people or have ever looked them in the face. This forum is as close to social media that I have. My sisters, all 5 of them, are constantly telling me to get Facebook and the like. Never going to happen

Don't let them persuade you! Most of my friends that have Facebook have say 1000 fiends. Under 100 of them they actually have ever met. Your estimate is accurate enough for I imagine 99% of the people that use it. And ive seen the stuff on it from coworkers things they've showed me and it's stupid pointless crap no one needs to ever see. Where at least with forums we are learning things daily. "Oh I leaned what my friend ate for lunch" or "I learned what stupid kids are doing for fun". Pointless. But! They are welcome to waste their lives like that. I will not. I'll 'waste' mine on my jeep

They won't persuade me. They have been trying for years. My wife has Facebook and keeps me informed of important things, birthdays, get togethers and things of that nature. I give my wife's Facebook credit for allowing me to keep all my sisters birthdays straight lol. You are right about the pointless crap in there. My kids are always wanting to show me some stupid video someone posted. Trying to be a good dad and not blow my kids off, I watch it and pretend to be some what amused. In reality I want that minute and a half back. My son, who is 14 and old enough for Facebook isn't interested. That's a good feeling. Maybe I won't loose them all lol. He does have some of the other pointless "social" media sites tho. I can't win them all I guess

Ehh who knows. I genuinely laughed out loud at the "I want that minute back" that is the funniest thing I've read today. Well, I guess I'm still at work so yesterday?

I also agree. I invited my mom to lunch on day and she immediately set up her iPad and started trying to show me all the likes she had on Facebook about a particular post. I was thinking- is this a real topic of conversation?

That's one of the things I find so disappointing about the modern obsession with social media. Most people have given up the idea of real socializing and real friends, in favor of "fake" friends on social media. I don't care if you have 1000 friends, you don't actually know the majority of those people in real life. "Hanging out" with your friends doesn't count as talking to them on Facebook either.

I'm doing my best to keep our daughters away from social media for as long as I can. Obviously at some point they'll figure it out on their own. In the meantime though, I don't even let them know it exists.

While I can see some pros to social media, I see more cons, especially with kids these days.

As I parent I see way more cons then pros when it comes to kids on social media. Smart phones in general are obnoxious and sometimes dangerous in the hand of some kids. Not to mention it adds more work for the parent. It's more difficult to monitor your kids activities. My parents only had to monitor what I watched on tv and the music I listened to. My mom actually read the lyrics on the inside of the cassette tapes I listened to and I wasn't allowed to watch "threes company" lol. Did I just date myself?
Having teenage girls myself, I'll be saying some prayers for ya Chris. You are going to need them.

Oh no, don't get me wrong. The cons far outweigh the pros, by quite a bit too. I'll be watching them carefully as they grow up.

Like I said, at some point I can't stop them from social media. My hope however is that I can at least educate them on why it shouldn't be a way of life, as it is for so many people these days.
