Test drove a JL today

OK, I have to be honest, I test drove a JL Rubicon today and really liked it. With the prices of LJRs that are nice I thought it would be smart to just see a JLR. Of course I did my research and knew more than the salesman. Kind if funny when he says things like "this Rubicon also has the 4:1 gear ratio" and "most of the Rubicons have rock sliders". Anyway I think I would use my Jeep more and venture farther away from home for wheeling trips if I had just a bit more room (still 2 door), a hardtop and an overall quieter ride. I've got to get some things with other vehicles worked out so I won't be making a move too soon but it is something I will be considering. I know I would start with some 35's, not sure after that. I guess I need to find a JL forum that is as good as this one.

The prices are getting really good for a base 18-19 Unlimited Rubicon without all the nonsense on it. Easily from 39k-41k. I am contemplating on purchasing an JLRU or an LJ Rubicon. Did you test a manual or auto?

Smart move. You won’t regret it. Even a nice 2 door JKR would be great for overlanding type adventures as your describing. What LJs are going for and what you can get 2012-present wranglers for there’s no debate on what is the better deal. Road manners played a big role in me pulling the trigger on my 2 door Rubicon this go round, and I have zero regrets. 2 door JLR would be nice, but I can’t justify the extra 20k it would have cost me to get one vs the 2013 jkr I got.

Time will tell. No clue. I hear it drives pretty good with 37s and the new 8 speed, but I haven’t driven one on 37s to judge for myself. On a Rubicon you need 37s now with the JL.
 
I test drove a 6 speed 2 door Rubi x 2 weeks ago. They were running a special on it at $37k. I’m pretty sure it was the most basic Rubicon with cloth seats and plastic bumpers. I’m not gonna lie, it was a very nice ride.

Jeep site says there are three 2 door Rubicons with a manual within 150 miles of me.
 
Not gonna lie, I like them. And more so everytime I see one. Especially w 35’s or 37’s. And the Rubicons, w the higher fenders. Those look so nice. Hate the push start though. That, and we still dont know what kinks -other than rusty welds, which is mind blowing, along w the huge price tag- but still, good looking Jeeps.

I’ll just keep an eye out. Certainly the JKUR’s are starting to look obtainable. Yet, I’ll have such a hard time letting go of my trusty and unique TJ.

With a re-gear gears or factory gears? Which gear ratio comes in the new rubicons) different between manual and autos?

From what I have heard with the 8 speed and 37s drives very good. Tons of YouTube videos with 4.10s, 37s, and the new 8 speed. I haven’t driven one equipped like that myself.
 
I peeked inside when I was buying my truck. They are very nicely laid out. The Mopar 2" lift is 1300 bucks and will give room for 37's as seen above. 35's are doable on stock suspension.
