Broke out the shotgun for the first time in about a year and shot 100 rounds of skeet yesterday. Whole lot of fun can be had for $40 in shells and clays. May have even started a little family/friends skeet club.

I’ve done that a few times and it is tons of fun. We have a club close but there is a landfill close to it, when the wind gets right in the summer, it gets funky. I did one in Indiana and it was like a golf course but for skeet, shoot as much as you want and move to the next station, absolute blast...pun intended.I used to be big into it, trap & skeet is just a ton of fun. Me & some buds got community service decades ago for speeding & got assigned to work at the local county gun club so that's how I learned about it. If you can find a local club that has wobble trap or 5-stand you have to try it. In 5-stand each station is a different shot and everyone rotates though. You'll have incomers, outgoers, teels, rolling rabbits... Ton of fun.
Just do it, doesn’t have to be a $1k one, my $300 Stoeger does just fine. I’d say $400-8/900 range will get you into a nice shotgun.I keep meaning to pickup a shotgun. I’ve never owned or fired one, but it seems there is a lot of fun you can have with one, and it doubles as being hands down the best weapon out there for home defense.

C’mon man, everyone needs a shotgun. I bet your mother in law will have one before you...
That’s about the same question as “how should I build my Jeep”. You’ll want a shotgun thread, like jeeps, they all offer a variety of uses, you can spend $8k on one.If one wanted to buy a really badass shotgun, what would you suggest?

I used to have a badass shotgun, until that really weird day on the lake. It was a FDE Rock Island VR80, 12ga., slightly modified here and there. 9 round magazines (stock is 5) (they also make 19 rounders, and there’s a 20 round drum) AR styled, red dot wearing, slug shooting, steel ringing, make heads turn badass. That was fun!Okay, but you know me, I'll never buy something cheap, haha
If one wanted to buy a really badass shotgun, what would you suggest? I was in the pawnshop a few days ago and I had my eye on the shotguns, so maybe this is just a sign!
It's not as bad, but you can get addicted to shotguns quickly. They are versatile and cheap to shoot, an auto loader is smooth and fun, but the joy of a ejecting a smoking shell from a pump or over/under is gratifying no matter how many times you do it.Oh man, another rabbit hole
Based on what logic from which group of fanatics that don't understand shit about shotguns?doubles as being hands down the best weapon out there for home defense.

This is the Bennelli I held the other day, it is an inertia driven shotgun, not a pump; but it fits my perception of how I think you are (fancy pants). (I still would recommend a pump style for fun)
https://www.benelliusa.com/shotguns/supersport-shotguns?eid=131You want further your shooting fun...look at Henry rim fire rifles. Get a .22lr and a cowboy hat and have a ball.

Thread derailment over...I think.
Like our Jeeps, there are different types/styles to suit your intention, many of them can fill multiple roles.Oh no, I definitely want a pump action. Semi-auto sounds cool, but when I think of a shotgun, I can't help but think of that pump action.
As for the lever rifle, that's high up on my list as well. I'm a sucker for lever action rifles and six shooters!

As Blaine said, you really need to know what you are looking at if your intention is home defense, you can royally F yourself (or family) if you assume the shotgun is the best. There are a lot of dumb ass "experts" that have no clue what they are talking about.
I'm removing most of what was going to write about the misconceptions of shotguns and home defense. We can talk about that somewhere else.
I interpret good news as not letting you make a mistake that will bite you in the ass when you most need it not to.Yes, I didn't want to turn this into a home defense thread by any means, so I'll save that for another thread
This is after all the "good news" thread
As most would be able to guess, home defense has been a popular conversation amongst the locals. The #1 misconception still to this day is you don't need to aim very well. Doesn't matter how many times I explain that the pattern of most non specialized shotguns at distances encountered inside a home will be sub 12" and likely smaller, they still don't get it.Like our Jeeps, there are different types/styles to suit your intention, many of them can fill multiple roles.

My 7 year old has been plowing through the daily work his teacher sends home in just over an hour every day, so I've been having to improvise to keep him engaged and out of trouble. I was in the middle of working yesterday so I decided to teach him how binary and hexadecimal work. Showed him how to convert between base 2, 10, and 16, and how hex words are used to store binary packets of info for various applications. Then he sat down and wrote from 1-50 in both binary and hex!
No wonder he's bored at school. He said they're still only on addition & subtraction.
Teach him some assembly language while you're at it
Pretty sure you're making that up because I've never heard of such a thing.
