I wonder how many hundreds of times, including a bunch of times here, I have recommended that lunchbox lockers never be installed in the rear axle.
What you can try to do to minimize that rear lunchbox locker's quirks are to always make sure the throttle is neutral when turning corners... not decelerating, not accelerating. Neutral throttle will make it easier for the locker to unlock during turns which can help its behavior. The harder you're accelerating or decelerating, the harder that locker is locked.

I'm guessing the soft top doesn't come down very often.
One of my coworkers sent me a pic of this exact same vehicle from several angles (parked). The guy went to a lot of trouble to build and secure whatever this is.

I'm in the middle of installing a light switch that's mounted on the tub, in between the roll bar base and the back right corner of the tub. I too wish that I could turn on the dome light while I'm opening up the tailgate.
While you're back there it would be a good time to install a hand operated lock lever so you can lock the tailgate before closing it. It's a minor thing but I don't like having to use my key to lock the tailgate. If you take the black plastic lock cover off you can see how a latch lever can be fabricated and added. You have to cut a slit in the plastic cover before reinstalling it but it's pretty straight forward. When done the tailgate basically operates/locks like the doors.

Always thought this was a oversight too. Have had plans to do something about that but haven't yet.
I had a magnetic LED light on the rear of the roll bar for a while, but now I just leave the driver door open to unload stuff. Still sucks!

Yea that kinda works but if it's raining (I live in the PNW) it really sucks. Then the light times out after what? Ten minutes? And you gotta go close the door and reopen it..
Yep, we've had our share of rain here too. I never have left the door open long enough for it to time out, so that is something I didn't know.
