Throwback Thursday Jeep Edition

When I first met @Dave K. 6 plus years ago, I saw this jeep at the local car lot. I told him how much I loved it and was thinking about buying it( knowing nothing about Jeeps). The next day he pulls up in the jeep saying he bought it. And he’s been buying things out from under me ever since . :hmmm: Lol.

That's hilarious!

View attachment 43567 View attachment 43576 View attachment 43567 Here is my first, 79 CJ-7, with a 304, and a 3spd manual. One of my biggest regrets was selling it. About a year after I sold it, it was on the front page of the Birmingham News. It was hit by a 7 time DUI offender and was totaled. Luckily the new owners were ok.

I had a 89 YJ, but I can't find a pic of it. It was ok, but did not compare to the CJ.

I've been wanting anothe jeep for a while, but having a camper, I needed a truck. About 6 months ago my wonderful wife started pointing out Jeeps, and hinting I should get another one. My son is 15, and she thought it would be good for us to tinker with. After looking for a coup,e of months, I found what I wanted about 3 weeks ago and bought a 2002 TJ, 4.0 manual with the Dana 44 in the rear. It's too clean, I don't thinks it's ever been off the pavement, but that will change.
OMG Those were my favorite tires in the world which seems ages ago. Wrangler R/Ts they were bad ass in their day! Still look cool by today's standard!

I would trade my TJ for the right CJ. And that one there would qualify!
A lot of nostalgia going around about CJs...I fought with my last CJ7 for months, and went through 3 of those stupid Carter carburetors trying to keep it running for more than a day or two at a time...no thanks. o_O

Six cylinder? The carter two barrel carbs were/are a pain in the ass. Lots of issues with Carter WCDs on my Ramblers. Don't know if they got any better on the newer AMC products. However, I am a fan of the Carter four barrel carbs. Never had an issue with them.

Ya you need to drop a fuel injected chevy motor in. Or one of those throttle body injections. I agree with you. Especially in a place where the temperatures or altitudes vary in extremes.

Some beefy lugs on those things!

ya they would throw up some good Marysville mud back in the day. I remember spinning some roosts in Marysville just off of the freeway on the East side. I forgot what we called it, but we might have named it after the gas station across the street. Hell it is probably a Mall now, but it used to be some awesome muddin close to home. I would love to tear it up on my quad now.

North or south of the river? Or whatever that waterway is. I'm not much of a water person. Professional drowner, and all that. I'll have to get some pics for you. You give me some ideas of what you want (you can PM me), and I'll try and seek out some of your old haunts.

It has been so many years, but lets see if I can describe it better.

You are heading north in I5 out of Everett across the flats then you hit Marysville and it is a big city right there but you keep going straight till I think the next exit there is nothing there but an exit, you get off then cross over the freeway and there is a gas station with food maybe even a small truck stop then directly across the street more mud than you could shake a stick at. Dirtbikes, Quads, me and other muddy jokers.

Donna's Truck Stop?
YES I believe that's it. Across the street was mud pits and hill climbs bike tracks trails for just about any vehicle you could throw at it. In fact I think we called it Donnas Truck stop when we were going to meet up there. Sometimes we would spend the night and have huge bon fires and maybe been known to drink a little. It was super fun because we could play hard and it was like 15 minutes away.

Well, just across the street (north) is still vacant land, as I recall. There's now a Park 'N Ride right off the southbound exit, but other than that, I think there has been no development. However, the area east of the highway is starting to get built up, so it's just a matter of time, I fear...

Change sucks! We used to go up to Arlington and Granite Falls too to go wheeling, but it was quite a bit further to go. I remember doing a lot of wheeling in the snow up in Arlington. One time I blew the clutch completely out on my 72 bronco and my friend towed me back in the pouring rain all of the way back to Everett. We only had enough money for beer and wheeling there was nothing left for tow trucks.

Ah crap! I think you and I stole another thread. At least we are talking about "throwback wheeling." Maybe you and I should start our own thread, we seem to do this alot haha.

Carry on!!

If it is, in fact, Donna's that you're thinking of, they've actually added an exit between the Marysville exit to State Street and Donna's. The exit between takes you to a (groan) Super Walmart, a Home Depot, Cabela's, and a giant Indian casino on the east side of I-5...
