Your decisions make sense. I am from Fredericksburg, TX. Moved away 3 years ago. Miss the Hill Country. My Jeep was re-geared in Austin at Just Jeeps. They did a good job. Lots of good wheelin at Hidden Falls, Wolf Caves, et al. I know how that heat pours in during the TX heat. Hope this solution provides some relief with the new inner boot and raised shifter. It worked for me. My boot is still solid! Jeep on! 🙂

Fredericksburg? How 'bout that! Yep, I started wheeling with my previous TJ back in the 2001 time frame. I'd never heard of Hidden Falls back then. We headed to the "slabs". They closed it though as it required a tricky water crossing and too many people were cracking their, well cracking open anything that held fluid. So I guess the no water crossing law shut down anything in Texas?

I found Hidden Falls totally by coincidence. I was actually going to the shooting a little farther in, but discovered the park on the way in. Very cool to have it.

I'm sure you miss the Hill Country. Everyone who leaves does. We're in Lakeway. I'd prefer Fredericksburg, but for my work.

Take care and thanks again.

Next round of audio upgrades arrived. Don’t know when I’ll be able to get to the install. I’ll build a box for the shallow mount Kicker that will fit under the rear seat. The Soundstream Nano Picasso will go under the steering column.

Cool 😎!

I put a self-powered 8" sub (can't remember which one offhand) just behind the driver seat. After the head and speaker upgrades it's absolutely amazing to have all the bass - in a Wrangler!

Good luck with your install. I know you'll love it.

I had a self powered Rockford Fosgate PS-8 for 5 years. It crapped out a couple weeks ago. That's what spurred this new upgrade. The prices on the self-powered sub were not much less than this setup, so I'll try this and see how it works out. Hopefully I can get it all to fit. It's quite a bit more work. I loved my self-powered sub though! They definitely fill the cab without booming down the street.

I'm sure it will be a killer rig!

I run that Picasso under the column, JMT. I built a bracket to mount it to the column support bolts, and it fits nicely there.

I think I remember your elaborate bracket. Looked awesome. I’ll check it out again.

Sames...but mine isn't nearly as elaborate. I think its a piece of plywood bolted to a small piece of steel angle I had laying around. It does fit nicely there, but leave yourself enough wire to tune the thing BEFORE you install it under the steering column. The controls are small.

I think I probably got the Idea from you, somewhere along the line!

That’s a great and simple idea. I have some leftover fish cutting board that I used for the teardrop that I’ll cut to size with some angle brackets. My only meh about the whole thing is having easy access to the amp settings. I like to fiddle around with that stuff.

When I set mine Up, I used a frequency analyzer app on my phone and some different frequencies to tune the cutoff points. Once you get that set, you can fine tune with the bass knob that comes with the amp and the head unit equalizer settings. I haven't messed with the amp at all.

I’ll look into a frequency analyzer app. I usually set my 6.5” cut off at 120Hz and leave everything below that to the sub, can’t recall my cutoff for the 4x6’s in the dash, but it’s somewhere higher. I don’t have any tweeters, so this is just a sideshow audio system. Hope it turns out better than my previous sideshow. With everything running off the amp it should be cleaner.

Fed Ex, so the ETD is probably a week off! 🤣

If anyone is wondering, you can build a speaker box that fits under the rear seat with the following dimensions

L = 28”
W = 10”
H = 3” at rear and 5.25” at front

Here’s a pic of the only difficult measurement to figure out. The rear seat will latch over these blocks of wood. It’s tight!

My box will only be 20x10x3 rising to 5. The sub has a mounting depth of 2 3/4, so I think I’ll be good. That’s 0.35 cu ft volume and the specs on the sub are minimum 0.2 cu ft and maximum 0.75 cu ft. These TJ’s are so tiny!

dang. so much easier than the in seat box i've been working on. is the sub going to be facing up?

Yeah, I’m going to face it up because my research said that if you face it down you need a space at least half the depth of the box underneath. Facing up you don’t need that space. I don’t know the acoustical reason why.

I gotta see this box in the seat you are talking about! That sounds awesome (no pun intended).
