Wow, I get to give my self A $50 Spiff for finding Reman 2000 TJ 2.5L finally! This shop has in stock engines ready to go. It's been a very long journey but it paid off.
John Konnic from Titan Engines was very Knowledgeable and helpful. If you place a phone order it's $1600 vs internet ordering $1800 for the same 2.5L engine.

I think there is a big 4-banger resource thread on this forum someplace. This would be useful information to post there. Best of luck to you on the swap.

I'm glad I found this thread.

The 2.5 engine in my 1998 TJ decided to implode 500 miles from home, so I'm looking for a remanufactured engine.

I've looked at Jasper, Frasier, SandJ, and now Titan. After comparing them all, I think I'm going to go with Titan (I'll call them tomorrow when they're open to see if they have one in stock, and if so, finalize the deal). I live in SW WA.

Engines and shipping:

Jasper was about $5000 but included an install kit:

https://www.jasperengines.com/installation-kit

SandJ (S&J) was about $2800 (my first go-to out of Spokane, but they don't have any cores in stock to build),

https://www.sandjengines.com/cart/checkout

Fraiser was about $4000 but I wasn't getting a good feel from them,

https://fraserengineco.com/2-5-liter-jeep-engines/

and Titan looks like they're coming in at just under $2800 including an optional RV cam (I need to ask about that RV cam).

The shop wants about $2300 to swap out the engine.

I still need to get things like a new water pump, hoses, belts, engine mounts (might as well while the engine's out), filters, cap, rotor, spark plugs, etc. Once I get the engine ordered, I'll go to Rock Auto and order everything else.

Pictures of my sadness:

I do have a 2023 JLU Willys 2.0 Turbo (in Sting Gray) with the Extreme Recon package on order, so I do have something to look forward to. But hadn't planned on putting an engine in my TJ (which of course I'm keeping).

Sorry to hear it. Keep us posted on your decision. I hope I never need this thread but you never know.

Did you see the thread from a (Local) member from Selah who got his reman from NAPA. He's commented that he's liked the it and it's worked fine since install.

Edit: Here's the thread.

Of course there is always the magnum V-8 swap too.... ;)

I read that thread. In it, he said NAPA got their engines from SandJ, who currently has no rebuildable cores in stock.

Oops, Sorry missed that. Would have been nice to be able to get one from Spokane.

I talked to John at Titan. With the RV cam, extra balancing, and shipping literally to the other corner of the country (from Florida to Washington) it is coming in at $2850. He said figure two weeks to build the 2.5 and then he'll ship it.

I'm still shopping around for a place to install it, but at least I've got the engine in the works. It will be nice to be back on the road in the TJ. Till then I'm rocking the Yaris which I've actually got a 1.2" (30cm) lift kit I still haven't installed in it yet.

I'm not in a financial position to put anything other than another 2.5 engine in the TJ no matter how cool that would be. I just want to get this one back on the road. If I didn't have a new 2023 JLU 2.0T Willys XR on order, then maybe possibly I would consider it. But the 2.5 does everything I want it to do (just not quickly).

That doesn't sound like too bad of a price with what you are doing plus shipping. What does the RV cam do for you? And I was going to ask about the balancing too but looks like you've got it covered.

Have you talked to Jeep West? I don't know what he'd charge or what the wait time is. I don't know any shops down there anymore.
