Id buy a flat trailer, if your making this post your probably not fixing broken gears or axle shafts on the trail if your jeep breaks. A trailer is a no brainer to go offroading.

I don't know many that fix broken ring gear on the trail..... who brings spare ring gears?

I have a spare mega hi 9 third member in my trailer. Also spare axle shafts for each location. Spare drive shafts. Spare arb locker, spare grizzly locker. My best friend blew a 14 bolt ring gear set last october at trail hero. We went to vegas got one came back and put it in and wheeled for 4 more days. I have electric fuel pumps that dont fit my rig, electric fans and radiator hoses that also dont fit mine. I carry a welder and torch... I travel 9-24 hours to wheel.
Most of the people I wheel with that cary that much spare parts just bring 2 rigs lol.
I cary spare shafts, hardware and items but the main reason I trailer is if I had a bad enough breakage like a ring gear or locker I can load up and go home. I'm not a race team, rock bouncer and not carrying a spare jeeps worth of parts to go wheeling.
Granted we aren't traveling that far to wheel or having the benefit of wheeling for 4 days at a time. That might change a bit if I did but probably not much these days.

yeah I'm not that hardcore.
This is mostly a scenery trip with one obstacle that reaches into 6/7 territory so a major breakage like that isn't a big concern.

I dont race or rock bounce. I did race oval track for 21 seasons though. I live in Iowa just got back from a trip in colorado. a few weeks before that went to arkansas. I have a tube chassis buggy now. Originally built it with my drivetrain from my yj but have since replaced the axles with spider trax axles etc. I made a post with my jeep stuff in the into yourself forum.
The 3-4 clutches are the common failure items in the 4L60s. If you’ve kept the fluid clean and haven’t beaten on it, it’s probably fine. Just make sure you have it in tow/haul mode.
If it ever does do any flare shifting under load you can always manually upshift it with low throttle input till the shift is completed then get back on the gas. I’ve limped along some old shitboxes that way for quite a while.
