That didn't make me reconsider my Sgt Knots rope. Performance wasnt that far off the best and, for the price, it can be replaced several times for the cost of the popular brand names.
I thought the same thing when I watched that video a while back. His testing procedures are usually quite sound but he scared me a few times on that one.He is beyond lucky he didn't wind up with that drawbar sticking out of the back of his head.
I may just have to order one myself. That didn't make me reconsider my Sgt Knots rope. Performance wasnt that far off the best and, for the price, it can be replaced several times for the cost of the popular brand names.
He is beyond lucky he didn't wind up with that drawbar sticking out of the back of his head. He also failed to fully distinguish between why you want a 7/8" versus a 1" line.
I could not watch that video after a few minutes in .. it was just torture.
Our cruise ship was docking in Alaska. The dock hand had a front dock line attached to a large forklift. As he was pulling it snapped and the end, about 12’, landed on the dock at the back of the ship. The sound was amazing.

ditto. anyone got the tldw summary?
That sound will make you crap your pants. I remember a destroyer tender popping a couple of lines on the pier in Sicily. Fuck off, no thanks for any line parting, on a ship or on your Jeep.
PF's testing protocol isn't highly scientific even though he tries to quantify things that you sometimes wonder why bother. I was impressed with how hard (IMO) he used the ropes and apparently none broke. It looks like an inexpensive rope might be good enough for guys who have no intention of needing one but have it just in case or to help someone else.
Do these have a shelf life not considering damage from use?
He wasn't using them very hard. I've used them with double the slack, slamming the throttle on my 1 ton dually, and then hitting the end of a 1 1/8" version to unstick a propane delivery truck. I had to hit it about 10 times like that to get him moving but it did it.
OK not that hard but what he did should unstick a Wrangler shouldn't it?
