Non highline fenders advantages?

The cops in your area are pretty lenient when it comes to tire coverage?

Here they tend to leave jeeps alone but put the hammer down on lifted trucks. I've made a few sets of removable mud flaps for me and my friends pickups after tickets

I like to have some flair so at least it looks like I'm trying

Which is ridiculous. All the damn east coast inspections. Must have doors, wide fender flares, etc. If that's the case, how the hell do motorcycles fit into the picture. Doors? Really?

Motorcycles are a different class of vehicle that also existed long before cars and trucks were required to have doors. I have read that the reason the Wrangler is allowed to have factory removable doors is because it has been grandfathered in by being in continuous production as long as it has.

Broncos have removable doors, and the production gap was about 24 years.

That said, I could see Ford receiving the green light after arguing the need for fair competition.

Something I'd heard here in CA is that you need a 3"(?) lip on the lower door opening like jeeps have to be able to run without doors. I never cared enough to try looking up the rules though

It may have something to do with keeping the patents and trademarks current during the production gap. I recall something about it during the reintroduction of the Bronco that allowed the removable doors and specifics about the hardtop coming from the past production.

Let President Musk know. He cares about the plight of the working man.

A big part of the refocus over the last few years is to reduce and minimize the physical bulk. I can't get hung up on or damage what isn't there. That was the major justification for the narrow highlines and no flares.

Makes total sense.

My experience with flat fenders was the old poison spider tube fenders. I flopped my TJ and damaged a stock fender and stupidly went with the PS solution because I thought they made sense. They were obviously strong and more rigid then factory and looked pretty cool and I figured the additional tube armor would be a plus in the JV rocks.

What I learned was that a good smack on those transmitted all the force up into the tub, door, window area of the TJ. It resulted in some issues getting my doors to close cleanly and did tweek the window frame. I had never run a hard top on that TJ so it didn't matter to me, but in hindsight I should have either left the dented stock fender, or replaced it with another stock fender. I'd rather have a fender tweak then the rest of the Jeep get battered "out of square".

That's my $.02 from 25 years ago.
Guessing you missed Sergey driving home with his hard top ratchet strapped down and the driver door ratchet strapped shut? He tagged a rock with the left front PS fender and closed up the left side door opening at least 3/4" or more. Enough that the door hit the jamb and wouldn't close.

I did the same thing but I went with TNT fenders. Hit a tree and it started to buckle the tub slightly. Pulled the TNTs off, bought cheap Chinese fenders, painted them and put on the MCEs. I figured, if the MCEs and fenders got all torn up, I could easily replace them. Looks like the fenders yes, the MCEs no. Can't run without fender flares up here in the NE without LEO getting upset and I'm not going back to any heavy fenders either.

I'm not sure I was on that trip but it doesn't surprise me at all.

You guys and your acronym’s. mCE’s? And LEO? I’ve heard of no issues running without flares or even front fenders for that matter. Andy?

Not so much here but in PA (Pennsylvania ;)) the LEOs (Law Enforcement Officers) can be very hard on vehicles with no flares. I do drive in PA quite a bit.
