Shifter is broken

I cut up a flexible plastic coat hanger to fix mine, I cut some extras too and threw them in my spare parts box I carry in the Jeep in case it happens to someone else on the trail. A plastic coat hanger has enough flex to make the bend without problem. You just need to whittle down the tip diameter a small amount so it fits inside its hole in the shift knob handle. It works very well.

I went to Ace Hardware and bought a dowel rod of sufficient diameter and it must be too long or something because when I press the button on the handle, the handle pops off in my hand. Ugh.

This shit is getting ridiculous.

Measured once, cut twice and the stupid thing is still too short!
;)

I should probably precut the chopstick before the part snaps and keep it in the glove box.

So what did you finally use?
A chopstick.

I'm thinking of getting some blue Loctite to help keep the handle top on.
