1st gear has been totally goofy on this transmission since it was swapped into my jeep about 2 months ago.

There has been changes from holding 1st gear forever to then not using 1st at all after adjusting the front kickdown band to the transmission specifications. I did the process twice to ensure it was done right.

When I put the transmission into 1st gear only, it’s super sluggish and feels like it’s bogging up. It’ll only go about 15 mph when it first and then eventually everything kind of feels resistant/locked up.

The transmission fluid is good and at the right level. There’s a small leak on the transmission, on the backside of the transmission pan.

I took a video to try and give a better idea of what is going on. Any help or troubleshooting is appreciated

So I’m guessing automatic? And 4.0 or ? So many variables

Definitely verify the fluid level while the transmission is in neutral.

@hear would be our neighborhood expert.

Adjusting the cable to the throttle body would be a good thing to try

I’ve messed with it. I’m pretty sure that it’s in the factory spot. When I pull on the cable, what would indicate that the cable is bad?

When you came to a stop and then it wouldn't go at all, it seems like it's just slipping hard. If it was stuck valves or pistons you'd most likely just stay in the wrong gear and have lousy acceleration. But if you came to a stop and then had zero power, I'm inclined to agree that you need a rebuild. How did you get home? I would still doublecheck the fluid level by getting it warm and then putting it in N and checking the level while the engine is running.

But the trans shop would've said that regardless.
