What did you do to your other vehicle today?

You should do what makes this YOUR truck . Have fun building it !

Absolutely this. While in some regards I'm a bit of a purist (there's a time a d place for this), I love customizing vehicles to make them my own and a bit unique. Not everyone always likes it, but i don't care as long as I like it. I'm also a big subscriber to the less is more train of thought. But I do love a bit of contrast/accent color.

I love all of the old Chevy trucks. I'm looking forward to see what you do with this one.

what year bronco?

1990 FSB.

It will be on one of our rides at some point.

With about 5 minutes left in my 2 hour drive to work yesterday morning (I only go in once a week) the blower in my DD pickup started vibrating. I turned the speed down and thought well, this timing could be better. I'm up here two days and highs are around 100.

Went to lunch, same. With the speed cranked up it violently shook the whole dash but I could run it at 2 without being too severe and that would keep it just cool enough not to sweat in my office clothes.

A buddy offered to let me use his tools and driveway to change out the blower after work so I picked one up at the Irish parts store and made the 30 minute drive.

I found myself appreciating the TJ for how easy it is to work on as I fought with several fasteners buried right above the tunnel or against the firewall.

The blower itself was fine, but I didn't want to be doing this work again so I put the new one in anyway.

Did it smell like something died coming out the vents ?

Not at all. I think he actually was alive before he fell in, and was only in there for about 7 hours before I had him out. I'm just glad it happened on the way to work instead of the way home, because I would have parked it and said "I'll deal with this later" and come back to it in 3 days. I only drive it about twice a week.

Changed oil. I think the last guy put the drain plug on with loctitle and an air hammer.

The torx part stripped out round immediately because it's an aluminum bolt vs steel tool.

I had to make a groove on the edge with a chisel and pound on it with a 3 lb hammer until it came loose.

Then go to 4 stores to find a replacement. 2 had it in stock online. Ha

2-1/2 hour oil change.

So... That Rock Lobster JK I did an oil cooler swap on a while back? Well, after a couple of oil changes and 6-700 miles, I was just informed it's leaking oil from somewhere after getting an oil change this week at a local dealership. 🤦

I know for a fact I did everything correctly, torqued everything correctly, and the install was trouble-free. It was obvious someone was in there before me, although I couldn't definitively determine why.

Dad says it's not coming from the drain plug, and appears to be coming from higher up the engine. From the pics, seems to be mostly driver side. All I can think is valve cover leak, rms leak, or a seal failed on the oil cooler. Maybe the aluminum housing cracked or one of the oil sensors failed somehow.

It's not that i couldn't have done something wrong on the install--anything is possible. But I highly doubt it, and I had a buddy with me actually verifying everything I did regarding torque values, torque sequence, etc. Also, I'd have expected something to happen much sooner had it been an install issue. Anyone got any guesses?

Wondering if something didn't happen during the oil change or with swapping over to full synthetic Mobil 1 after 3 cycles of synthetic blend. No clue. It's going back to the dealership for them to try to locate the leak, as the jeep is about an hour and a half from me. They won't be doing any work (as of right now), but hopefully identifying the source if dad can't find it in the mean time.

Update: Dad started it this morning to find the leak. It's pouring down from the top of the bellhousing. I feel certain it has to be the oil cooler at this point. But what I don't understand is how/why. I'm positive I did everything correctly. Hoping it's not anything more severe/expensive, but don't want it to be my fault either. I just can't figure what could have happened after this much time/mileage if it's related to something I did.

Did Jeep finally make that cooler out of aluminum? Or did you use an aftermarket version?

I know when I had my JK, Jeep had already gone through multiple revisions to try and fix the issues they were having with it.

Don't get too upset , a JK/JL/JT all use a crap engine design , ( 3.6 Pentastar ) . You can do everything correctly and a plastic part can fail . For what it's worth , I totally doubt that Mobile 1 has anything to do with the issue . I've used it for decades on engines with over 250,000 miles on them , and contrary to internet lore they don't leak from every gasket or burn oil . (2) Toyota 3.4 V-6 , (2) 4.0 Jeep I-6 , (1) 350 1st gen SBC , (1) 364 , (6.0 ) Vortec 6000 . You guys will get it figured out and repaired . Things can go wrong anytime an engine is touched . Don't sweat it man .

No, their new revisions have all been plastic. That said, the newest one seems to be working well for people so far. I'm just still not satisfied with plastic for that job, so I always use the Dorman aluminum. While there have been a couple of QC issues noted with some Dorman units over the last couple of years, the two I installed this year looked fine.

Yeah, I'm trying not to. But the perfectionist in me has a real problem with this 😂. It pisses me off even more when I do everything right and something still goes wrong, especially if it's a manufacturing issue or something, because then it was out of my control and I don't like that lol.

And yeah, i doubt it's the Mobil 1. I run it exclusively in everything but my TJ, including our JKU, and haven't had an issue. I just know some vehicles can do strange things based on what brand/type/weight oil you run.

I had a few different chevy engines (5.3, 3.8, and 4.3) that did NOT like Valvoline conventional. Would leak every time. Switch to Pennzoil and the leak would stop. It was wishful thinking that a similar thing was happening with the JK, but after seeing the oil pumping out, there's no way. At this point, I'm betting a seal failed.

Final update: The rear-most o-ring seal failed on the oil cooler. Appears to have been a defect in manufacturing of the o-ring (I used Mahle seals, as I usually do) as it was extremely deteriorated, not ripped/smashed/torn/missing.

The important note here though is that IT WASN'T MY FAULT! 😂

This install actually went smoother than most I've done, and the oil cooler actually went into place on the first try without having to reposition it. I didn't even have to align the bolts with the holes because they were already lined up perfectly. (those who have done this job know how insane that is). That's why i was dumbfounded as to how I could have damaged an o-ring. Well, fortunately, I didn't. Sucks that this happened regardless though.

So , we can cancel the suicide watch now that we know it was a bad O-ring and not you fault ? :ROFLMAO: ..... I jest , I jest , thanks for the update !
