Who did his last outboard? What was wrong with it?

When they measured the mounting position for the rear towers, they didn't do it at ride height while the vehicle was on the ground. Thus the shocks ended up having an unequal amount of up-travel / down-travel.

I can't recall, but it was something like 5" up travel and 7" down travel.

That is of course unacceptable. The shock should be in almost exactly in the middle of it's range of travel at ride height.

Jesus, I was eye balling that Jeep after I bought mine, that was a great buy Chris!!! You got a heck of a deal with the work done.
As for beadlocks, I’m a big fan of Walker Evans. The style is classic and he offers a forged wheel as well. I do t know how many have done this, but I have broke cast aluminum wheels in the past. It’s why I have steel wheels on the TJ right now, I have bent those before and hammered them back enough to get me off a trail. Couldn’t do that with a cast wheel. May have been a fluke but I’d go forged. I couldn’t afford the wheels I wanted at the time so I bought the cheapest steel locks I could and they work.

I have never owned a set but have mounted them before. Too quality!

I have owned TrailReady, nice wheels too. Have had a few other brands, cheap ones and expensive ones. I have a set of Methods on our 4Runner. I highly recommend NEVER buying Methods.

the rings faded in less than a year. Horrible anodizing. They don’t offer a warranty on their off-road wheels. Now on one hand, I get that. They are designed to be beat and they shouldn’t replace beat on wheels. However, mine had only seen snow use at that point and were otherwise perfect besides the horribly faded rings.

They basically told me to F off. I then had their cheap crap hardware fail in one wheel. I knew better and should have upgraded it when I was mounting them.

Broken bolts, tried to fix them, ruined wheel. Then they had discontinued my wheel in the backspacing I had which was close to stock in favor of a backspace to give it “stance” which is so popular with the Toyota overlanding crowd/IG bro’s.

long story short, F method race wheels!!!

Walker Evans also has a strong racing pedigree as well as a USA company.

I think it's a great deal as well. Lots of stuff done, tons of spare parts, and it won't take much work to get it where I want it personally.

Damn, I didn't know that about Method. So many guys use those wheels that I'm kind of surprised.

Walker Evans makes some nice stuff, I really like their 501 wheels a lot.

I was shocked and dismayed as well, especially for $2000+ dollars. Live and learn, and also mine are cast wheels made in China. I didn’t research enough and impulse bought, regretted it ever since but my wife loves the look so I painted them and will have them PC’d next year when I pull them down for tires.

Maybe. I mean if I beat it on rocks sure. I wouldn’t blink. But they went from black to near bare metal in 8 months. Poor anodizing. I used proper chemicals on my vehicles too.

They designed awesome looking wheels and those on your taco are some of my favorite ones too.

the other issues was the junk China hardware. They now ship with China grade 8 not 5 anymore so they finally addressed the issues but it cost me a $450 wheel.

just a heads up, go into the decision informed.

I think they listened finally, I wasn’t the only one. I had bought a new NV105 in black cause of the discontinued thing and it did come with grade 8 hardware, I assumed China made as the wheel is still made there....maybe it is good stuff. I replaced all my hardware with quality grade 8 stuff before paint. I used brass monkey PD off the hellcat wheels...turned out nice.

There's a chance they had so much negative feedback that they revised some things. In this day and age, you won't survive long if people tear you apart online.

Metric grade 8.8 is equivalent to SAE Grade 5
10.9 is equivalent to SAE grade 8
12.9 is more betterer

I’m no expert in fasteners, I was just told a while back the higher the grade, harder they metal but it starts to become brittle. Never had grade 8 fail in the 20+ years of beadlocks, it just had 7 grade five shear the heads off....I think the 8 has enough stretch in it...for the beadlock application.

In my old industry we had bolts fail due to their plating from hydrogen embrittlement. Granted they were 3” diameter but if you had grade 8 I would guess it was likely something like that.
