A Simple Build

Decisions decisions 🤔.
Have to plug in your numbers in the gear calculator and see what your spinning at 70MPH with 5.38's.

I want to find a NP241OR so I can 4 speeds on my rig! It's almost cheaper to go atlas at this point that NP241OR.
That's the issue I ran into. Most people want stupid money for a used np241 that has over 100k on it. After the purchase price and rebuilding the thing I didn't see the value. I figured at least with the atlas I'm getting something brand new.

Plus you gain 2wd lo when you want and the infamous front digs...

Do you have a link to a thread about this? I haven't heard about this yet! Unless I've missed something which if that is the case, clearly I need to get make more coffee . . . I better make it black this time instead of my Starbucks 🤣

Yeah I wouldn't mind paying a decent price, I know they are worth money, I just really like the idea of having 1:1, 2.72:, 4:1, and then 10.88:1, though why I need that with my diesel I have no idea!

ANYWAYS back to Chris's Rubicon, hey Chris I know you said you were looking at 31/32 inch tires, are thinking about going wide or something skinny? Curious to see what brand and tire type you're wanting to run as well!

Doesn’t his current doubler allow 2 low? Front digs would be nice

I guess with the doubler yes he has 2 lo but at what ratio? Isn't the doubler 2.72:1? Having a 5:1 low is so much nicer.

Get your coffee out and make it STRONG....

Front digs are used to go around an obstacle using just your front tires pulling you around. As Blaine has said you can spin the Jeep around 90* or 180* and the rear inside tire stays in the same place. I use it to make tight turns instead of having to make a 5 point turn. The trail up here can get tight and even a SWB TJ has to make 3-5 point turns. With a front dig you just whip right around.

At about .30 seconds into the video he does a front dig.

This one he's doing it in the snow.

Trying to reach down and release the parking brake takes your hand off the shifter. Doing this keeps your hand on the shifter and able to change gear or slap it into reverse if you need to. I also did this mod on my ex father-in-laws TJ so I know it will work. Also sometimes having your front tires locked instead of your rears is better. I'll try to find the switch I used. I have one somewhere. If you have ever been in the cab of a semi it's the same switch used if they have a multi-speed transmission.

It's like this switch that BD is using and this comes with the clamp to mount it to your shifter. It is a little pricey.

SO yes my 2Lo is 2.72:1 however it's rear axle only, I don't know a way off the top of my head with my setup to only have power going to the front axle, but after explaining the scenario @Wildman if I'm understanding what you said correctly that would be awesome to have on the trail!

Yes with your doubler it's 2lo only to the rear axle. The Atlas gives you the option to send power only to the rear or the front. This is nice for some situations.

You’d have to have an atlas for front digs
