LOL A JK who identifies as a TJ - does that make me "transjeeper"?
Hey guys, while I wouldn't pay 40k for a JK (I'm sorry, you can argue that one with me all you want, but in some places that's 1/4 of a house payment), if they were more affordable I would certainly have one in addition to my TJ.
I also have seen how off-road capable JKs are first hand. Stock versus stock, they are more off-road capable than a TJ in my opinion. I think what a lot of us don't like is the majority (note, not all) of JK owners who pimp them out. Although, that seems to be happening with TJs a lot lately as well, as some of these high school kids get their hands on them and start adding all the "look at me" mods.
Trust me, if you're a member of this forum and own a JK, I harbor no ill will towards you whatsoever. Like I said, I like JKs, I just don't like how 95% of people do them up, that's all!

3. The ugly bumpers
4. The JKU - 4 doors is a sin
5. The ugly grills made for them. The Angry Bird, Spartan, etc grills are stupid and I hate that they've bled over into the TJ market.
6. Power windows and power locks
7. The blocky appearance
8. Color matching hard tops

It would be much cheaper to buy a JKR of some flavor, slap a set of tires and a winch on it and go Jeep'n than build my SE. That piss's me off.

I agree whole heartedly. I've looked at it, and if I bought a JK Rubicon all I'd really need to do to it is put some 33" tires on it, a mild lift, a winch, and probably call it a day. They already have the tummy tuck stock, and they already have enough wheel space to fit a good sized tire without much (if any) lift at all.
The catch is the steeper entry price.
I like the JKU's. and I've only seen a handful of JK's that I like. A stock JK is butt ugly, a stock TJ looks a lot better. IMO.
What I hate about the JKU's mostly is the price. I'm sorry, but a Jeep Wrangler shouldn't cost as much as a full size truck. And this is coming from a guy who loves jeeps, and I've driven one everyday since I bought mine brand new in 2005.
I'd like to have a JKU, since I have a 3 month old now. But I won't pay a $300+ monthly payment.
And I am still annoyed about the engine thing.

They are supposedly going to be building the JK in parallel with the JL this fall. At this point nobody should be buying a new JK unless they desperately need new wheels. It seems curious why they are going this route.

I personally would love a Jeep Wrangler that just came from the factory; no dings or scratches or anything wrong with it.
However, the owners who typically purchase JK's are the ones who spawn all of our hatred for JK's (the angry eye grills, rows after rows of light bars, automatic transmissions in 99% of them, 20" alloy rims that never see dirt, typical Chinese front and rear bumpers, no character at all).

I hate to say, but I'd be way ahead financially if I'd kept the '07 JKR I ordered in 2006, and skipped the 4 Jeeps in between it and my current Rubicon. It was set up exactly as you describe above, and climbed anything like a mountain goat.
But, I really like my '04 TJR!
Ahhh, but that's just life. I think back about all the mistakes I've made (most of them not even related to Jeeps) and say to myself, "man, if only I could do it over". Hell, if that were true, I would have skipped all the other vehicles I ever owned and just went straight to a Jeep. I would have probably saved an unthinkable amount of money!

I can only talk about styling as I have only driven one once for a very short amount of time, the stock front bumber is ugly as sin, why anobody thought it would be a good idea to put a book shelf on the front of a vehicle I dont know. The rear window seemed tiny, felt like I was backing up an igloo.
I like the JKU for the extra room for gear and for the third seat belt in the back (some of us have multiple kids).
I dislike the stock bumpers and fenders, but I really dislike the cost of modding it compared to my TJ. Although their fender flares do look good when cut down.
I REALLY REALLY dislike aftermarket color matched bumpers. It screams I want the look of going off-road, but I don't go off-road (black can be spray painted as it gets scratched up a lot easier than a color matched bumper). I think it just looks bad. I'm also not a fan of color matches hard tops (looks like a wannabe hummer), but I have seen some that actually looked good.

IMO, if you are doing overlanding, I'd take a JKU and throw a roof rack with rooftop tent on it. For anything with tighter trails through the woods, TJ all the way.
In fact, I went through two trails on Friday's that my TJ barely made it through. Trees cleared my wheels by about 1 inch on both sides and I had to turn my mirrors all the way in through the door less frame to pass through. There is no way a JK/JKU could have made it.
