Chucked up the Rabbiting router bit in the drill press and relieved the inner edge of the 1/2" spacers so I can mount the 6-1/2" Kickers in the upper pods
Man these Kicker CS's have super clean sound compared to the 5-1/4" Sony Xplodes that came out of the pods
Soooooooo, what's the trick to fixing the buzzing dome light lenses other than tossing them in the glove box (current solution)?
Aaaaaand, without ripping off the top and stripping all roll bar padding, how do these pods attach? inner corner of my right side is loose and now that I know it's loose it's making my eye twitch
If it is wired up in parallel to the power inputs of the amplifier, I'm pretty sure it is a capacitor.
If it’s a capacitor you need to be careful with it. Needs to be discharged before messing with it.If it is wired up in parallel to the power inputs of the amplifier, I'm pretty sure it is a capacitor.
They are used to help smooth out the current going to the amp if your charging system isn't robust enough.
I had them in a CRX in college to stop the headlights from diming when the heavy bass notes hit.
New to the TJ scene. Thanks for the add. I have read alot of this thread, but not all.
Starting with a stock system in my 2003 TJ with no sub. I may forego the sub for now, but I want a decent upgrade to everything else. Here is what crutchfield adviser suggested...
Kenwood KMR-D378BT
Polk Audio DB 652
Polk Audio DB 522
MB Quart MA1-440.4
Two questions: will that amp tuck under the dash somewhere? Will the 6.5s look ok in the soundbars?
I will stuff the cavities with poly. Upgrade speaker wire if necessary.
Opinions/suggestions welcome.
PS I have a banging system in my SJ but don't want to spend that much on this one.
Thanks for all that. I have Morel speakers in my other Jeep and they are fantastic. I saw those focals. Will they fit in the soundbar? they look deep. I am not married to the Polk idea. I will pay up to get quality. Not really concerned about budget. The 5 channel is an idea i pondered if i cant live without a sub later on. TJ is so cramped, just trying not to occupy all the space with components. My console does not have the stock sub.A sub is really important and you can go with a 4 channel amp and a self powered sub, or my recommendation a five channel amp.
I would absolutely not buy those Polk speakers unless there is some discount where the price point is $50 each. A less expensive and better quality speaker would be a Kicker C or D series, or even the BLAM speakers which Crutchfield does not carry, nor do they carry any of the quality European brands. If you want to pay more you can look into Helix or Focal as a next level up.
For 5 channel amps that will fit under your dash, there are a few options, but budget is important. The Cerwin Vega B55 bomber is a good choice for an amplifier. https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item-94247-Cerwin-Vega-B55.html
The Kicker 6.75 1ohm sub is a great addition. Do you currently have a center console sub? What is your budget?
you guys are going to convince me. I have one in my other Jeep.A sub made the biggest difference in my TJ. Id highly recommend one
A local guy, welcome.you guys are going to convince me. I have one in my other Jeep.
I ended up using a Sound Ordnance b-8ptd powered sub. Its not a top of the line sub but for what I was after in my TJ I really like it. It is slim, affordable, and packs a quite a bit for an 8" powered sub. I have it under my front seat currentlyThe 5 channel is an idea i pondered if i cant live without a sub later on. Did it just slide right under or did you have to raise the seat? My jeep is plenty tall already.I ended up using a Sound Ordnance b-8ptd powered sub. Where do you buy Blams? I had to look them up.A local guy, welcome.
I’ve got the BLAM’s ready to install. I’d recommend them as they are highly recommended and reasonably priced.
kicker sub and cerwin Vega b55 amp also to install
