32RH transmission cooler question

Because I can. No one is going to buy me a trans when it goes out. I figure if I can get a few extra miles by it running cooler, more money in my pocket. It is one of my habits at my company. Preventative.
The why is why don't you have a gauge so you know instead of running around like a goober with a temp gun?

Goober is fine. Those guns are pretty handy.
Almost as handy as a fucking trans temp gauge. What happens when something causes the trans to have a problem and start to overheat? Got a hole in the floorboard so you can shoot it with the temp gun while you're driving?

OMG! Are they that sensitive? I am going to go right out and get me a sensor, some wire and a gauge TODAY!! Your a funny dude.

What happens if you want to know your freeway temps and whether your cooler is enough for those.
Only time it has ever been on a freeway is on a trailer, I can shimmy out the window and lay on the floor of the trailer to check it if needed.

Can I borrow your instrument cluster for a bit?

Top one you can have. In fact anyone who needs a 00 cluster is welcome to it.

Congrats on the purchase, OP. Was that the jeep with the short looking rear driveshaft, and have you checked it?
Thank you! This was the jeep that you commented on the short looking rear driveshaft. I still have to check it. Other than a quick drive to play with a new toy, it's been in my garage going through it. Changed fluids, greased everything, rotated tires, etc. What exactly do I need to do to test/check this? Lift the body up and let the rear axle sag? What will I need to check on the drive shaft to make there that everything is ok? Sorry, I've not owned a modified rig to this extent before.

Thank you for the pictures. That is probably the size of cooler I should have gone with, but had a larger one laying around already. Your install looks good and it's nice that you were able to screw it to the support bar!
Ya, it was not intended that way it just worked out. I had a fin type that was larger that was intended but I found the small one at a surplus store.

Best thing to do first is to pull the shaft and measure the total length of the spline to determine engagement.

First, mark the shaft so after you pull it apart you can put it back together in the same position (this is important). Then unbolt the shaft at the pinion (axle side), pop the shaft out of the yoke (being careful not to let the u-joint caps come off), and pull the shaft apart at the spline. Measure and record the total length of the splines from a reference point, and then put it all back together. Using that measurement, you can then determine how much spline engagement you have a ride height. Then, you can drop the rear axle to full droop and again using your measurement, you can determine spline engagement at full droop.

Post up what you find, and we can let you know if it looks like enough.

It is Monday morning, it is the first Monday in 6 weeks that I have had a full crew. I have worked 14 days straight. I am a donkey on the edge.
I figured it out. Zip tie the temp gun to the frame so it points at the trans pan. Tie a string to the trigger and run it inside the cab. Get a remote triggered Go Pro that you can send the signal to your phone and point that at the display on the temp gun. When you want to know how hot the trans is, remote trigger the Go Pro, pull on the string, read the display on your phone. Brilliant!

I think I’ll go with the 12v solenoid instead of the string. Otherwise it’s a go. I already have a GoPro mounted on the thingy that holds up the trans. I just need to turn it around to point at the heat gun.

OP, welcome to the forum. Just a note that I am butthurt by Blaine.

😩

kidding if course. It’s a great group with lots of knowledge. Enjoy!
