Metalcloak fender test on stock suspension with 33s

Is shock length not relevant? I had "the recommended ranchos" for my lift and wouldn't have been able to get my tire above the fender line, for example, so these fenders (as ugly as they are) wouldn't have mattered. It seems like you're intentionally spinning this into trying to jab at someone's travel since you two can't get along.
Not to the OP. Re-read it.

Explain how the fuckin shock mantra was incorrect. Also explain how it was inappropriate to provide further context to what we were seeing in the first post.

Offer up something useful.
The OP likes his fenders. You don't.
Find another thread to crap on. That's useful .

You realize there's more consumers of a thread than the OP, right? Maybe someone else comes along wanting to read about these ugly fenders but isn't aware of all the considerations or tradeoffs they'd make choosing them?

Ugly to WHOM? Not those of us who have them.

So are you saying there aren't considerations or tradeoffs with other fender options? The OP pointed out where the tires made contact and what had been done to his rig up to that point.

Again, nobody can just post what they did w/o being chastised and now because they're ugly?
You realize you make this too EZ? You can't keep your personal dislikes out of the equation.

Some can just pass over a thread they dont agree with. Others need to call them out as ugly. One needs ask 100 questions about shock length.

ANY fender has diminished up travel unless it's a totally cut out fender. The HATE as far as I am concerned has always been the marketing of Metal Cloak. Because they CLAIM you can run XX size tire and this doesn't hold up as totally true. And my POINT is that if M/C didn't include instructions the BASHING of their products would be even worse.

I could give a FUCK if you like how they look. But the bashing of Metal Cloak seems excessive to me. My opinion. And who's feelings are getting hurt?

Almost everyday it's suggest that it HAS to be built this WAY. Didn't you bring up aluminum? So because I choose to use steel instead it's implied I'm WRONG. And because the O/P isn't worried about a 3" suspension lift to clear 33" tires but instead chose to get Metal Cloak you said he was wrong. So yes in many ways it is implied there is only ONE way to build a rig.
No one said the build was wrong. I said there are compromises. There are compromises any way one chooses to do this. A no/low lift on 33s with MC fenders is not the same build as a 4" spring with stock fenders. But we aren't supposed to talk about that or the way things work because it creates divisions.

You stated that MC was the only rear corner that satisfied your needs. Once upon a time you were interested in the newer ways to build a rig after having been out of the game for a many years. And you were willing to do the work. Then you quit listening so those who were trying to help and you went back to knew. Then you started going out of the way to treat everything as equal. Around that time you noticed that the "krew" stopped trying to help. Because you quit listening.

Ugly to WHOM? Not those of us who have them.
Exactly, it's opinion. Accept that people disagree. Stop getting personal about it.

No, that's exactly the point. Everything has some tradeoff(s). The important thing to discussion is recognizing the ones you or others may have made and not wanting to just confirm biases.

For some reason the same few people in these threads can't just admit they made tradeoffs that are sufficient for them instead of bitching about people that do something different than they do.

That goes both ways, even though you and a few others want to face palm me being more moderate and understanding. Some choose a lot of work to chase a bunch of marginal gains (trading off time, money, energy) others choose to not (trading off not spending that time).

Again, nobody can just post what they did w/o being chastised and now because they're ugly?

You're on the internet and can't recognize people can be tongue in cheek?

Why can't you pass over a post from Josh without needing to call it out? Is that somehow different to your scenario?

So far so good sticking to the mantra.

Lets take a moment to insult @Wildman.

Tell me JJ since we're getting personal, what the fuck have you done in life or built besides your TJ? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Again I see it over and over again where it's build it like this or it's WRONG.

As for instructions? Sorry but I'm OLD and there are many things I can figure out but there are also many times and things IMO that should have instructions. Especially when it's technical things that need to be done a certain way. But to each their own.
The presence or lack of instructions is irrelevant to how something functions. MC's instructions, no matter how good they might be in showing you how to attach their fenders, won't tell you anything about how they fit within the totality of the build. That is what these threads are for.

@GASnBRASS Thank you for the detailed post about the actual clearance differences between stock flares and the MC overlines. Contrary to the rhetoric being tossed around by a couple of the Savvy groupies, some people, such as yourself, don't need/want to spend thousands of dollars and countless hours redesigning the suspension of a vehicle that was more capable than any other vehicle brought to market in the US just to fit bigger tires.

I'd also like to thank you for the entertainment, as was expected the usual MC haters never fail to disappoint.

I've passed over his BS for 6 weeks or better. Then like the Godfather, he keeps pulling me back in. His constant need to pound his suspension into every thread gets old, I speak up.

Does he PM you to come to his aid? I seem to get tag teamed in most of these threads involving JJ's hatred of MC.

Tell everyone why I matter so much to you. A disproportionate amount of your effort around here is focused on me.

Savvy doesn't sell fenders.

I can't validate or comment on how larger tires fit with Metal Cloak AWESOME looking fenders since I've moved my axle forward. Plus I don't have stock bump stops or coil springs or anything else. But these fenders LOOK great and clear my 37" tires no problem.

There are compromises with ANY build period. And no one said this was the BETTER way to go all the OP did was explain what he did and what happened.

The MC corners weren't what satisfied my needs. It was the removable flares that did and MC only offered the stretch corners in steel.

And again in your MIND I stopped listening . I've been listening all along but because I didn't always follow the advice it was ASSUMED I wasn't.

Who is getting personal about it? Opinions are LIKE? and we all know what they do.

Yep there are tradeoffs to everything we do.

So becasue I don't agree with yours & others statements (which is my opinion) and facepalm comments made I'm not being moderate and understanding? WTF???

Tell us what all you've built, own, or work on besides your beloved 11 7/8" suspended TJ? Were all giddy to hear.

There is certainly way more than one way to build a rig. But there is only very few ways you can build it right, where one is fully conscious of the impact of all the choices and make the trade-off decisions for the right technical/logical reasons and not based on feelings.

Whatever one has (or built) may seem to work sufficiently good for what one does with the vehicle. If you are happy with that, more power to you. But unless you can comprehend (or experience) what good actually is, you don't know what you are missing.

Understanding the right way to build not only will save you time and energy in the long run, but also directly will lead you to enjoying the vehicle more. This understanding can come the hard way (by making mistakes and learning from them) or the harder way (note: I did not say "easy") - by following and learning through the shared experiences of people around us. Harder because you have to really educate yourself to separate the wheat from the chaff and the fact from semi-truth/fiction. Either way, the education is very valuable.

Building optimal should never have to be optional. You can have fun building and still end up with a really well balanced rig. In the end, that's what matters.
