Nashville TJ's Build - Continued

Jeff, Scott, and myself did this Trail 71b two years ago at Windrock. I t was hard but doable when it was dry in October. I think I had to winch a few times on 36's due to diffing out on the deep ruts but Jeff and Scott made it look easy. The rock section at the top was super fun.
Jeff, this is the trail we did to get to the top of the caryville flats and when we debated if we should continue wheeling or go get gas and made the decision to continue wheeling since you had rotopax on your jeep :ROFLMAO:

I recall - a great trip, actually (as they all are with you).

But to set the record straight - I do not recall being involved in the "should we continue" decision, or I would surely have said, "Ya know, those Rotopax are only for show..."

I've been doing a little heavy wiring this morning, and thought you boys (especially those who like to give me grief) might get a kick out of this:

Yeah, I had the debate with myself and I won. So we continued on until Scott and I ran out of gas. Luckily you didn't roll her over backwards on Trail 7 and were able to shuttle us to get fuel. 🤣

My electrical drawer has these same organizers utilized the same way. IMO, this is an example of using OCD for good. I hate having to dig/search for things.

Oh my gosh - had I actually gone the rest of the way over backwards (I came close - confirmed by Scott's muffled scream from the passenger seat), we'd have been *%#@-ed.

I call that being organized...saves future self from frustration and burning time. Similar to storing fasteners.

Oh man, I just watched this video, Vic. That trail was definitely tough when we did it, but man - "Impassible When Wet" really does describe this one.
 
My son Michael and his wife Tori are who had the twins. Five kids for them now. Their oldest son, and my first grandson, you may recall is Luke Jerome - so I call him LJ.

Matt is also named for me. His middle name is "Wheeler."

A little more work on the wiring over the past few days.

First up, adding a fuse for the new fuse box. I picked up this heavy duty fuse mount and a 250 amp fuse. After considering a bunch of locations as close to the battery as possible, I settled on the firewall just above the A/C and Heater hose. But the place I wanted to mount it is not flat, so I deeded to make a plate. Looking though my metal bin I found a perfect piece - I did not even have to cut it. It matched the contour of the block perfectly. Who'da thunk?

All I had to do was drill and tap it:

Then a couple of nutserts on the firewall...

...and boom! Fuse mount:

A couple of counterbores on the back to allow it to fit flush around the nutsert heads, a little paint, and we're ready for some wiring.

Next, tapping the ARB Brushless Dual compressor into the new fuse block. When I first installed it, I wired in a small fuse block on the passenger side inner fender next to the PDC. I simply removed that block, cut the two power cables to length, crimped on 5/16" lugs, and added the 60 amp fuses:

Next, power from the new 250 amp fuse block to the 500 amp fuse block. Running the numbers, a 1/0 fine stranded, tinned OFC cable will handle the 250 amp max load over the four feet or so to the battery. So out came my hydraulic crimper...

Over the years I've accumulated quite a few connections directly to the battery positive post. Adding another fat cable there was not going to be pretty. So I took this opportunity to install a junction box just off the battery. I picked up this 600 amp junction block:

My PDC is elevated, so plenty of room for the wire to run under. I also had enough cable to get there for every connection except one - the welder positive connection, which is basically the feed from the alternator. It was going to be a very big job to extend that connection to reach the junction block, so I left it on the battery terminal. I may go back at some time in the future and rework that.

The block has a cover which works, but I'm not happy with it.

I think I will come back at some point and design something better on the 3D printer.
 
Your jeep is just an absolute work of art. The only mod I could even possibly think of that would be any type of improvement would be to swap that Hemi for a nice LS powerplant 😁😉
