Matson says the MC joint needs NO maintenance and he hasn’t serviced his for years.

wonder what he would say about the joint i have less than 2yrs old with less the 2k miles on it ripped beyond safe, and causing front end wobbles.

i dont think it's your joints causing this, but nobody can say they don't play a role in whats happening.

the noise is rotational and almost sounds to me like the pinion is shearing off the edge of the ring gear tooth, or something like that in the diff, though i have no experience to back that theory.

I got in the diff a couple weeks ago. NO metal at all. Super clean. I rotated the ring and looked at all the teeth on ring and pinion and what I could see in the Eaton E-Locker. Who knows. I'd have to remove the carrier and go further to see if there's something I'm missing. I think I'll let a gear shop do that if it comes to it.

This is just to document what I’ve done to diagnose the problem.

- Rear driveshaft sent back to Adams. 1 u-joint replaced at the pinion end. Shaft re-balanced
- TCase opened and taken apart. Found bad bearing. Good find. Replaced bearing. Didn't fix the problem
- Rear driveshaft removed. The sound was gone.
- Front driveshaft removed. The sound was present
- Changed gear oil in rear diff. Teeth were checked on ring and pinion. No metal shavings. Very clean fluid. New 85w-140 fluid.
- Adjusted rear pinion (2*low, 1*low, 0*, 1*high, 2*high). No change. I left it at 0* for now.
- Maintenanced 3 of 4 rear MC Arms. Everything looked good. No visible splits in the rubber. One more to do. Need to test by mimicking articulation
- Changed rear axle shafts and bearings. Some rust in the passenger axle tube due to the exhaust dump above the axle. Something to correct later. Cleaned up.
- Slo-Mo video shows sound is loudest near rear diff
- Go-Pro video shows the sound increases as speed increases
- Mechanics stethoscope under slight load on jack stands shows most change in sound is at the pinion on the rear diff, but the sound is not very pronounced.

As said by some others, the differential seems like the most likely thing now. It seems as if the frequency matches the driveshaft rotation which puts it between the transmission output and the pinion. Since you've already had the t-case apart and driveshaft redone, something with the pinion? But then I thought for sure it was that SSSYE bearing so...

I hate electrical. I hope this is easy enough, but I gotta find a fuse to tap into that’s only when I turn the key on, and my instructions said “ground the brown wire” and I can’t find a brown wire. I also am wondering if I should put them under the seat covers or go under the actual stock fabric. I will need a few days to do this at the same time I do some sound deadening and BedRug. It will change the inside of the Jeep for sure.

Ultimately, I think my wife got the seat heaters for her. She’s a seat heater junkie.

I'm fairly certain I tapped into one of the wires for the oem sub amp. I want to say red is switched and yellow is constant but double check that.

Seat heaters are one of my favorite mods lol. I like going with the top down with seat heaters and feet heaters blasting. I feel like I’m in a hot tub out in the cold!

That’s exactly why I’m doing this mod! To get the top off earlier and keep it off longer! I love a hot tub in the snow !

Did you install them beneath seat covers or beneath the Stock fabric?

And how did you know I’ve been looking at a JK? The prices are cheaper.

A heated jacket was on my Christmas list too, but I thought heated seats would be better.

Jeeps are parked for winter. Truck has heated seats, steering wheel and electric heat until up to temp. Plus I wear a Milwaukee jacket. That’s my solution.
