I couldn’t wait to learn to weld to fix the exhaust, so I took it down to Mr Muffler. About 20 minutes later my muffler is 14” rather than 20”, so hopefully that’s far enough away from the axle to keep it from blowing the exhaust on the axle causing condensation inside the axle tube which causes rust.

Next I’ll hone out the axle tubes with a 2.5” honing tool that @Wildman suggested.

Last 2 weeks I’ve been removing upper cabinets and lower drawers and worktop in our basement so we could make it a work out area. I found a bench, curl bar, and some plate weights on FB Marketplace. We already have dumbbells up to 35’s. It was a pain repairing the drywall, texturing, paint, and adding some trim pieces, but it’s almost done. Wife and I are now doing some workout routine called Warrior Babe. 🤣 As funny as it sounds, it’s not a laughing matter. 😳

I’ll post pics tomorrow.

To salvage the upper cabinets and lower drawers and workbench I moved them all to the garage and started implementing my plan. The garage was horrible. I sketched a plan about a month ago and went to work with demolition, salvaging what wood I could. Goal was to maximize workspace and get everything off the floor. Bikes are a huge thing in our family and I have up to 8 in the garage. 🙄 it’s amazing we were able to park the Yukon SLT and the Jeep in the garage before. It’s WAY better.

I also found a 4’x2’x6’ heavy duty shelf to store more crap. Mind you, all the while I’m throwing crap out and I now have a trailer full and still the attic to go after all this. I installed the lower cabinets and drawers with the bench top, but I wanted the top flush with my Husky workbench, so I measured and built a raised frame for them. Came out very close.

I’ll get pics of all this tomorrow, but need to get this down. I removed all the crappy shelves of the PO and its really no surprise. His work is total crap and I have no idea how he survived this long. 🙄
Must be something in the air. I've been putzing around the shop too, making some more organization pieces. This weekend, it was my bar clamps.

I might make some custom wooden bar clamp supports. Mine are just stacked up above the pegboard. Good idea.

Don't go to garagejournal dude...you'll get sucked in. ALL KINDS of good ideas. I had to scale back from creating a whole french cleat system on my wall. It was planned...but I decided I needed to organize before I need another project!

Looks like you have a decent sized garage at least!

oh, I'm pretty much done, maybe just a few more i's to dot and t's to cross. I'm a minimalist. Even with the Jeep. If it's not necessary, I don't go there, usually. LOL

Now I’m ready for a welding table. I hoped my garage purge and renovation would clear space for a permanent welding station, but that didn’t precipitate.

I need some suggestions or best choice of the following. It needs to be a foldable table. I really don’t even have room for a folding table, but I’ll make it work. Keep in mind I’ve never welded. This is for me to learn to weld in a good position (tabletop ~35” high). I’m hoping to get the Ar/CO2 this week, so hopefully by this weekend I can at least start making some beads. Help @someguysjeep or other welders like @Wildman, @Mike_H, @Blackjack. Not a big deal to spend $2-300 for table and accessories.

Honestly, just go down to the local big box and get a sheet of 18 ga steel or something to throw down on your bench for now. That will keep the spatter from burning pits in the bench.

Once you get the feel of welding, building a welding table is a good first project. I'm sure you can find some DIY plans to build a folding table. Plus it will give you practice cutting steel with your grinder... Having a welder isn't much good if you can't cut steel too

This is what I did, I have a 24"x24" sheet I have for on top of my bench. I'll get a few more to cover the whole bench top, but for now it's sufficient. Better than the few fires I lit on the wood top!

I’ve been thinking about cutting steel. I’ve got a table saw, mitre saw, circular saw and jigsaw. My understanding is if I have the right blades I can use those tools in addition to the grinder. Is that correct?
