If you haven't looked at this problem before, I've got a knock, shudder, I've had the driveshaft re-worked by Adams last week with no change. I've been trying to figure this out for a month. There are a couple more videos above, but this is the best. Sorry for the exhaust dump.


That is loud enough you should be able to hear it with the rear axle on jack stands. Do that and isolate where it is coming from.

I wasn't able to replicate it on jack stands, but I'll try again. Going out now because this is driving me crazy. WE have about 10 minutes of light left here in WA.
 
@mrblaine. Nope, won't make that noise on jack stands.
 
it seems to be timing with when the torque pushes the diff around or cone forward, when it relieves so does the noise.
 
Might be my eyes playing tricks on me, but whe you really load it up, it almost looks like the pinion is moving differently than the axle...like the pinion bearing is really bad. If it was that bad though, you should be able to feel it wiggling around, if you disconnect the driveshaft.
 
Did you use the brakes? Not parking brake, but service brakes?
No, so what do I do here, rev it up with my hand throttle and press the brakes?
 
Could to be something tore up in the SYE? Tone ring gear, speedo gear? I've had an outer pinion bearing go bad on me recently, but it made a howling noise rather than that picket fencing you are experiencing.

When I had the shaft off I messed with the pinion yoke and it was firm, but I’ll do it again. I’ll try the service brake first, then I’ll raise my pinion about 0.4* so my pinion is exactly 1* lower than the shaft. Then I’ll remove the shaft and start taking shit apart.
 
Make sure that is the case, get a good load on it until you stall the motor. If it won't make the noise and it is very possible, then that is a great clue it isn't coming from the rear.
Ok, I really appreciate it. The whole Jeep learning curve has been an experience for me, and I really appreciate the help. I can still only help the newbies, but as stupid as I feel sometimes, I am learning. I wish someone had invested in me when I was young. Instead, I was basically left on my own to run around like an idiot.

That’s very interesting. Really appreciate you looking at the video. What do you think about the movement of my pinion under load? Can’t wait to see what the bushings look like. I hope that’s the culprit bc I don’t like the driveline issues.

I’d just take off an arm, and I will next Friday, but I don’t have a good set of snap ring internal pliers. I’m leaving town on Monday and back Friday.

Ever power braked a car to make the tires spin and do a burnout? Same kinda principle. Let the clutch out, then apply brakes and throttle at the same time. You'll need to balance throttle with brake... It's gonna stall on you until you get a feel for it... Then you'll get it and really get a load...

That did it. The sound is way less pronounced, but it is coming from the TCase. I will have to pull it and get into it. At least it is isolated to a general area. I run the Tera 4 Low. If something is bad due to that it would surprise me since it’s still making its wonderful whines and sounds normal in 4L, but an output shaft bearing in the SYE perhaps. 🤷‍♂️

I think you’re close to hitting the nail on the head.
Before you pull the case, disconnect the shifter linkage and manually shift it into the same mode you were in for the test and try it again. If the sound goes away, test drive it.
