I think it's a woman thing. :) When I was growing up, we had an old Ford Bronco, with a manual. My dad had just finished the garage... Built from scratch. My mom started the Bronco in reverse and smashed the back wall.


I smushed my folk's car door pulling in too close to the garage door when I was learning. They didn't make me pay everything to fix it, but I did have to chip in. It was a good lesson for me... The difference I guess is that I had my licence already...I was 17 or so.

Yeah, I’m super pleased. Actually the door is ever so slightly a different color, but it’s very hard to see. It took me awhile to see it, and the light had to be just right. But, meh. I also touched up a few spots on the door. Looks brand new, better than my driver door. 🤣

damn with a pic like the junk yard provided Im not so sure I would have made the trip. But wow, what a door. You picked up a really nice part there. Glad you got it fixed so quick.

Somewhere in my build thread my son threw a rock from inside the garage to the outside of the garage but it hit the garage door on the ceiling and broke my windshield. He had to pay for it. That’s just being stupid. In this situation I blame myself for not moving the Jeep outside of the garage before letting her in the drivers seat. Tough call. Glad you are conscientious enough and firm enough to give tough love.

I'm sure she knows how much you care for the jeep and was probably pretty sorry it happened.
She'll be more aware now and you found a reasonably priced fix.

(I probably wouldn't have made my daughter pay anything in this situation)

I will say, don’t mess up your doors. It’s a very expensive fix if you can’t find one in great condition and in your color. These doors are way harder to fix than I ever imagined. I got out cheap. Take care of your doors!

I still took her for a driving lesson immediately after. It was very frustrating for me, but in the end she’s got to learn to drive. It was a short lesson. I just couldn’t stomach it much. So she learned two lessons that day. I did get really angry and she was still upset the next day even after I apologized for my blow up.

I’ve been thinking about what you said. I’ll say this, in general, women don’t think about turning radius, wheel speed, or improving driving skills. Most people in general, men included, but more women, think they are good drivers. The thing is, most situations don’t demand a lot of skill to navigate. But when a situation arises, most people don’t drive well.

One incessant problem is following too close. Anyone who does that is a stupid driver. You can count on it. Therefore, most people are stupid drivers.

Today I took my lock cylinder out of my damaged door and put it in the new door. I did the same with the latch because the other one had a seal that was warped and it just wasn’t perfect. The lock cylinder is not bad to remove or install. Easier if you attach the rod to the cylinder before slipping it back in. The door latch is more difficult but not too bad. The cotter type pin that attaches to the actuator is a little difficult to get started. Finish from the top by pushing in. What’s more difficult are the two latch retainers, one on each side. I did not do this, but I would try in hindsight to position them on the latch first, then insert in the door, roll window down and tap into place with a screwdriver and hammer from the top. The hardest part of doors, as always, is putting the interior panel on. At any rate, it’s all done and only took an hour and a half to do. 😎 I’ll post some pics if someone wants to see what’s going on in the door with the latch, lock cylinder or interior latch/lock.
